Generally through an auto box they'll be lucky to lay down 130rwkw. The later model ones make probably 20-30rwkw more if you're lucky. That's a lot of ground to make up.
As for 20v's, not many can do that![]()

Thanks for all the replies.
I've been looking at the lextreme forums just about the exhaust systems so far, has anyone got an X exhaust pipe system on their 1uz? I'm looking for a system that will get rid of the problems of the restrictive stock extractors but doesn't make it too loud. Any suggestions for shops that have some experience with 1uz exhaust systems? and some pricing if anyones had any exhaust work done to 1uz.
As for the Xede piggyback, in that posted thread (I've read it before but forgot all about it) was that $1600 to buy, install and tune? do these piggybacks have restrictions in the way of increasing the rev range or any other restrictions??
So far I'm thinking of getting exhaust system (maybe X or Y pipe depending on peoples experience)
Getting a Xede piggyback ecu (so far sounds the goods for a 1uz) BTW: was that installation/tuning done at the same place as the dyno days are held at?
Then just saving up a fair bit and getting the cams done (anyone had these done before and have a rough price estimate?) and maybe a bit of head porting at same time, the most likely another tune if its needed.
How much of an increase would i see from cam work and porting (and tune if needed)?
Later would maybe look into those throttle bodies, but for street car wouldn't be high on the list, especially at a cost of $3000+ shipped, installed and running/tuned (thats if nothing else would be needed and most work done by self)
Cheers
chris
The Celsior has the best factory headers available on the 1UZ.
I have no doubts they'll support 200rwkw.
Yes, an exhaust (headers back), and a bit of cold air induction will net you the ~175rwkw with a tune.
Any piggyback will do, its all in the tuner.
Most of UniChip guys are getting 160rwkw ish.
I'm *guessing* the UniChip tuners don't tune the motor very agressively.
Whereas the SAS guy knows how to tune
Most piggy backs will keep the factory AFM, so there will be no ITB's unless you go full standalone.
ANY aftermarket standalone will suit the 1UZ.
Personally I'd get exhaust first, then cams, and then a piggy back/retune.
That will be the cheapest NA route to 200rwkw. No porting will be needed for 200rwkw.
The other option is to get exhaust, then a retune, and then decide if you are happy with the performance change.
An MV Automatics shift kit wouldn't go astray if you want a bit more pickup.
Then again, losing 600kg wouldn't go astray either![]()

I know it's not N/A but there was a very tasty gold Soarer with a 1UZ-ZFE that pulled some nice numbers of very low boost.
u have to atleast go forced induction
dont waste money on NA shit
they want to charge me 1000 to 1200 bucks for custom extractors for mine
i cant justify that for 15 kws max
i have seen afew with big cams and quad throttles and some just had 20 or 30 more kws
than a std one for spending up to 5000
so leave it std or spend over 6000 to turbo it
encouraging words sideshow... real smarts thems are
i can tell many hours of thought, research and hard work went into "NA shit"
considering an NA engine build/mod as a 'bolt on' process is at best ridiculous, bluntly ignorant if you say it with meaning

I wouldn't go as far as calling a 200rwkw 1UZ an 'NA engine build'
It can all be done with bolt ons and piggybacks (yeah, ok, I'm stretching it by calling cams bolt ons, but they are by no means custom, just a lot of time).
250+ rwkw 1UZ is beginning to get to the NA engine build status.

Cruzida:I'm guessing you've used the SAS guys before?
I was also thinking of getting cams done before ecu but still would depend on cost of cams, still not sure of what to look for cam wise, just having a bit more of a look on lextreme.
Haha only if could loose 600kg from a celsior/ls400 and still have all the luxobarge luxuriesThen again, losing 600kg wouldn't go astray either![]()
Sideshow: True it would be better bang for buck if i went turbo, but if i was going to build turbo or s/c 1uz i would try and do it properly, completely rebuild top to bottom with decent sized turbo(s) or s/c and able to handle decent amount of boost (around 20psi for drag/track days) and basically be able to punch out some fairly good numbers, but I'm not really into that at this stage, would like to do it though.
I'm aware that I most likely will be spending up to around $3500 just for exhaust, piggyback, tune and a few other small things (KnN panel filter, CAI, full service) I'm just trying to get a few opinions on what can be done N/A wise to reach my goal and some pricing for these mods or where to go to find out some rough estimates.
cheers

hey ed it took me only 2 minutes to think of those words
maybe u get get yr science book out and youur bunsen burner and tripod
and give me the real results
what im sayin is what ive run into the past
ive worked on over 30 1uzs and i always find out what the final outcome is
more and more people are goin forced induction on these
anyway when u spend yr money let us know how it goes
another thing is what gbox are you planning to run
these go so much better in manual form
and if its still an auto then it costs about 2000 by the time u buy conversion lit and a bellhousing
people brag so much about these 1uzs but i dont see what all the bragging is about yet
and when u speak to proper perfomrance workshops not backyard guys they say the same thing
That's because you don't speak to the big dollar boys that are making the really bit numbers, and the performance shops aren't interested because it's all custom or not enough bang for buck.Originally Posted by sideshow

Yeah, the 1uzfe is pretty popular in boat racing I've heard. They run as much as 40psi with only new pistons and minor head work (valvesprings etc). 1000hp is not unheard of.
I dont get why people are saying this engine is hard to work- there are 3sg's out there pulling 250hp NA, the 1u shouldnt struggle to hit 500. It has all the good ingredients and the stroke isnt *too* long. It should be a fairly simple matter of applying all the usual NA tricks.
Right?
The stroke isn't long at all, in fact, it's much shorter than a 3S.
