Very good + Rep
Ok, after just completing this conversion on my AE101 GTZ Levin, I documented the whole process on my website. I still have a few little things to tidy up, but the whole process is there.
Enjoy.
Linky Linky.
Very good + Rep
looks good mate. what were your thoughts on it when you were done, worth the effort? any noticable differences, problems etc?
Friggen awesome. For $100, can't go wrong.
Better mid to upper range, revs easier and goes harder. Definitely recommend doing it!
awesome. might have to put this on the cards. is your car on a stock ecu? id love to see dyno figures/torque power curve for before after + rep! oh and why smallport TB?
Why smallport? just cos. It fits and is 55mm. What size is the bigport butterfly?
My site has a before dyno curve, and I'll be getting an after run in the next few weeks. I am running an AE92 ECU with replaced capacitors to fix the common power drop issue with the 4AGZE AE101's. But other than that it's a stock engine.
Hey buddy.
Awesome, I have tried to fix my ae101 ze power drop issue for 2 years. Done so much research, changed knock sensors etc, never knew about potential damaged ECU caps being the cultprit?!!!
Could you PM me details or post them up. THIS IS A MASSIVE FIND ??!!
Daniel
Interesting what you say about the small port GZE TB being only 46mm. I have 2 big port GZE TB's and they were (1 I had bored out to 55mm) 50mm.

My bad, typo on my part. I'll fix that. Been stuffing with my mates tuned Helmholtz intake and got confused..
Ghetto-spec, I'll definately be doing a guide. Might write it up tonight, with a full parts list.
Are you saying you have applied Helmholtz tuning techniques (spelling?) to a 4AGZE? Now that would be something to see.

Nah, not me. It's my mates Mazda 323 that will be Helmholtz tuned. Were looking to reclaim the title of fastest N/A 323 in the world. (one of ours is currently the 2nd fastest...)
I was toying with the idea, but the supercharger negates the need for it somewhat. I'll be designing a custom intake manifold for it soon enough, so I might incorporate some sort of tuning if I get around to it.
What you were saying on your sight about replacing capacitors in the ECU, do you know if the AFM (AW11) equipped GZE's suffer the same way?

They certainly could. I did a capacitor replacement on an AFM AE92 ECU, and a few of those looked a little dodgy. It's certainly worth doing IMO regardless of how they look on the outside. Those capacitors have a bad reputation and you can't see what's going on inside them.
Better to get rid of them before they make a big mess I reckon.....
Kool! I'll look into it

I definitely suggest replacing ANY nichicon caps IMMEDIATELY.
I just pulled open my AE101 20V ECU... sure enough it has Nichicon caps, and surely enough they have leaked and made a mess of a couple of pcb tracks.
I'll post my own thread about this same thing for a 20V ECU.
...... butt scratcher?!
