    Default W55 bellhousing to 1G

    At last I can post!

Now, I was wondering if the W55 bell behind the 2SC motor will bolt up to the 1G block. I've been searching for one for a while now and I tried the Corona 2SC gearbox (looked similar) but I found out that it was all BW after I pulled it out

I was thinking about this beacause the 2S block is narrower than the 22RE.

Another thing, I found this on another tread -
G and W boxs have same bolt pattern to the bellhouse.. so liteace/townace/hiace etc vans with G52/G55 (side shifter) etc have bellhousings for supra box. 5k liteace has supra box bellhousing ha ha

So a Townace, etc bell bolt up to my RT142 box?

If nothing works out with the bells, then I'll just have to fork out $550 for a W58

    Cheers for reading

The only other bellhousing I've found that fits the 1G is the 3T but that probably won't bolt to the W55. Why not put a wanted add for one. I'm sure there are loads of people with stuffed 1G gearboxes that probably still have the bellhousing. Also try ebay; I sold one there about 4 months ago for $50. Have you called the importers like SSS. Worth a try.

That doesn't make any sense to me, if the W58 will bolt up so will the W55.

You could also look for a 3T-GTE bellhousing as well as the 1G bellhousing.

Grant - SSS is too far and there are a few import wreckers in SA that have W58 boxes.

wilbo666 - You think so? The 2S is a 4 and the 1G a six. Theres only one way I'll find for sure and that is too take the g-box apart.

MR 1JZ - When was this? I was there about a week ago and he had a Toyota g-box but it didn't match up.

dave368 - Thanks buddy PM sent.

Also, does anyone know what gearbox that RT142 Corona has?

I'm trying to inform you of the fact that there is no difference between a W55 and a W57 or W58 bar the minor gear ratio differences (looking at them it is close to impossible/impossible to tell them apart). When you actually look at the gearboxes they look identical, the fact that the W55 came out behind the 2S which is a 4 means nothing (I in fact have a W55 behind my 5M-E which is of course a 6, and there is nothing stopping me in replacing the W55 I have with a W58).

Of course there is a huge difference between the W5X alloy gearbox series and the crappy Borg Warner stuff that came in aus coronas (W55's came behind 2S in SA63 celica).

I have a bellhousing for 1G. If you're interested please PM me.
    YelloRolla's KE20 1/4mi = 11.32 @ 119mph @ 22psi on slicks
    12.44 @ 113 mph on 165 wide street tyres
210rwkw - not bad for a smelly 3TGTE running pump fuel.

Mmmm. Whatever gearbox I have behind the 22RE won't bolt up to the 1G block. I know that W55 / 7 / 8 gearbox vary in ratios but I was wondering about the bellhousings. As I said in the first post, if the 2SC W55 box will bolt up to the 1G. I'll compare and find out for sure on Saturday.

The gearbox behind the 22RE will bolt up to a 1G with a G bellhousing
    The 2SC W55 will bolt up to a 1G with a G bellhousing.

The W55, W57 and and W58 are externally IDENTICAL given they are from a similar age.

The bellhousing differs depending on what motor it came from, and the shifter position differs depending on what car it was in.

I was about to reply when I seen that Cruzsida has explained it perfectly.
I have the right bell housing (actually 2 of them).
