ok, this is might be a really really stupid question but would there be any types of torque/power gain if i were to put 4age cams into my mighty 4a-f? would it just end up giving me a higher up torque band?
would they even fit :-S?
oh and while im asking questions. how much does it cost roughly to get valve stem seals replaced in a 4a-f??
thanks guys

They won't fit. 4AGE cams are run on a cam gear each and both spin in the same direction. 4AF cams only have 1 cam gear and then have scissor gears under the cam cover. The one cam gear driven cam (intake) drives the other cam (exhaust) via the scissor gears, but in the opposite direction.

which version of 4afe do you have? the reason i ask is because if you have the model in the ae82 to ae92 then you have the lower lift cams, 6.8mm I think I measured by memory. The later models after 1993 had 7.6mm lift from what I was told. 5AFE cams might also be an option.
I am not saying it will help you with your peformance but its something worth looking into. If you really want to get some serious 4age beating power let me know.
There is another option for 4AF owners.... Web DOES hardweld 4AF cams to any of their profiles.

The only profile I'd recommend for a stock, or mildly modded head would be Web's 294 grind... but that will wake it up... 294 grind uses a 214(@.050 lift) duration, with a total lift of 8.18mm. You'd likely need to update injectors to at least 200cc, and maybe closer to 210

so you have to send them your cams and they send them back with a different profile?
Was a pretty cheap when i did it on my corty around 100 for the seals (came in a top end gasket kit) if your putting em in yourself your only cost is time. but id call around a few places and get a price for the seals. You might aswell do the the whole top end gaskets if it comes in the kit. If your not doing it yourself just call up a mechanic they might have a rough idea on labour costs+ parts.Originally Posted by gerald1

Yes.... or if you have deep pockets they'll provide the cores(add $200 US to the cost)Originally Posted by Sam_Q
The other reason I wouldn't go to radical on the lobes... is with the 4AF cam drive it would be tough to make each gear independently tuneable(not impossible, just VERY $$$$$$$$$$).... so milder durations tend to require less extra tuning.

yeah I have been thinking about that myself, I considered making my own offset pins of thats how they are even located
Oh I had a good look at a 4afe today and I took a cam out for the hell of it. The scissor gears that lock the cams appear to be on a spline so they could possibly be changed in relation to one another via offsetting a newly cut spline. The belt drive can easy be taken off and offset with a slot machined in, that would be easy enough just time consuming.
