i remeber fast fours did one when they did the daweo/proton cars.

Simox i think and K&N were the performance winners. They went with K&N.

I prefer K&N. I hate Foam as it deteriotes and goes straight through your worked engine to kill it. So Foam FTMFL. like engine fires and engine knobbing performace buy them.

BTW you don't get to be where you are with out product testing and great product knowledge.

Find video's by David Vizard to help you choose your filter. He got 2 filters from a BAJA buggy and tested them. they still out flowed alot of off the shelf filters. and they were covered in dust!

$6 dry pod for the muthaphucking win.

at the end of the day, its up to you.

people have run the $6 pods with no issues, others, such as norbie etc. prefer the more expensive buggers.

when my cylinder bore wears out from fine dust particles getting in and fucking it, then ill switch to a better filter.

why not just cut holes on the dirty air half of the stock filter housing.
since all you are after is a change in noise levels to get defected with, and the chances of an actual increase in power being very low (have you measured the pressure drop across the stock clean filter?), you may as well just try modding original airbox first as it is free.

if you want the full unbaffled pod filter effect, you could just permanently duct hot air into your airbox?

    from loudest to quietest?
    no filter = defect
    pod filter = defect
stock filter bottom half +filter only = defect?
stock filter top half with big phat holes cut in it with holesaw = defect?
larger flat panel filter from other car, K&N or otherwise, in larger stock airbox = no defect
pod filter with housing to shield from hot air = no defect
stock air filter housing with K&N partial filtration panel = no defect

    ??

if engine is stock, it will still sound like it just farting in a can?

    ITB's however.... they sound good.

Getting a worthwhile power increase from a filter = defective thinking.

who cares that its a defect? Cops pull me over all the time to make sure my MR2 isn't a turbo, my kit, wheels, exhaust is all defective on my P plates, the pod filter they won't be able to see, so its alright. I have an aftermarket exhaust so it should sound better *shrug* and you do get like 3-4kw or something right nothing big but hey a few extra kw is better then a kick to the face by a nun wearing no panties

Highly debatable. Factory airbox with a clean element should present almost no restriction to a NA 3S-GE.

Why not? I like the sound they produce, a few of the MR2's at the last meet i went to had them and it really sounds sex, I can't have a turbo, or a powerful car, so why not make it at least sound sexy, all show and no go happy to admit it my mr2 isn't overdone, its not like a triple shit pulsar with a cannon its stylish needs a sexier note

If all you are after is sound, everything else aside, just goto autobarn and buy yourself a K&N pod... It will be the most redily avalible. The "sound" difference between other brand pods will be minimal.

I highly doubt you will gain any performance, which you don't want anyway, especailly on a NA motor, with out boxing it and building a decent CAI.

Just be aware, if your "bonnet" is poped, (cops can and do, do this) it will be an obvious defect with out being properly boxed...

Tough call. i can think of quite a few people who have been running cheepo pod filters for extended periods of time and cant think of any who have had major engine wear issues.
this is on rb30-25's, sr20's and holden six's. My best freinds VL has been running a repco cheepy for 3 years, doing big kays( 1.5-2000 kays a week ) and no dramas yet.
look if youve spent 20 grand putting togther a motor youd be mad not to use the best filtration, i just dont think theres as much of difference between the best and worst as therr is percieved to be.

(p.s) ran a cheap($30.00) pod on my w123 230e merc for 80'000km, never any sign of mechanical wear in the motor, and that thing earned its keep

hey MR2GUD after starting a thread like this you better get a before and after dyno tune, see if it actually does anything on a unmolested 3s!

I vote for a K&N product. Everyone knows they are decent quality and it will stop you worrying if a cheapo is doing the job. Dont be a tight ass!
