silicon is good for irregular holes, how about sikaflex, its like a grommet, only flexy and sticky and its always just the right size

Sikaflex = dangah to teh clean uo krew.

Great to seal I agree but wet clean up will probably result in stripping some of the floor. Dry is just a PITA.

How about drilling a matching hole over the other bolt, grommeting both so it looks like it should be there. It's what I'd end up doing so it looked right. Just ask Ed, we deliberated for days about how to mount a fuel filter so the writing wasn't upside down. Yes we could have turned it around so you just couldn't see it but I'd still know it wasn't right.

    QUIK STEEL!

end discussion about holes, Linden doing things with them, and there was something about a sensor in there too.

You can buy bitumous stuff that has foil on one side. You just stick it over the hole, completely seals it, sound deadens it, rust proofs it, and with carpet over the top, you will never know its there.

But, in the same breath, I would drill a hole and put a grommet in, as you will otherwise have tears in your metal, giving a weak point in the event of a road incident. A smooth round hole is stronger.
