    RA28tragic,

That's called induction noise from good ol Solex carbys! Yes, tuning can make that much of a difference...

If you are referring to the footage i posted it is called "TWIN 48s"
Couple this with a 2.2L and a shit load of other goodies and you have a great sounding 18rg with plenty of power and grin value
Sorry but they are Dellortos not Solexes

    Hello everyone,

Well, It's official. A couple of shiny new Weber 45 DCOE 152's are now on their way from Hollywood, USA! They totalled to an impressive $415.50 each including postage. The 38mm Chokes were a further $94.30 (ouch), but it'll be worth it

Since I'm on the topic, has anyone had experience trying to squeeze the factory Weber 45 Air Horns into a 1st gen Celica engine bay? By the looks of it it's a tight fit. I remember hearing that someone machined one of the bolts of the master cylinder to make room for the left horn of the left carb. Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated.

    Ren!

There are a variety of different length ram tubes available. I am running some shorter ones on my car and they are a little bit of a squeeze and they didnt need to cut any bolts etc.

It was me who said l cut the thread on the back bottom bolt to squeeze the tubes on but that tube was about 60mm long, which was the standard size when those carbys were sold. l also have a set of tubes that are 35mm long which would go on, no cutting.
If you do go smaller ones buy the slide on ones not the bolt on ones. The slide on ones are factory.

38mm chokes for a street car, a bit big, but prove me wrong.
Make sure you run flexible gaskets between the manifold and the carbys, you need as much space as you can get to get those ram tubes on. And when they are on, sit back and listen to the music, they start making a beautiful sound over 4 grand.

    Hi Everyone,

Cams were dropped off yesterday at Tighe to be reground. The final specs for my cams are:

    420 lift, 240 @ 50 Duration.

To be honest I'm quite glad they weren't as radical as initially planned (270@50)! These cams sound like they'll be a great compromise between HP, Torque and driveability so I'm happy.

Roscos: Cheers for that. Looks like I'll have to be cutting the bolt to squeeze them in. I'd love to go with the standard 60mm horns which come factory with the 45's, I can just imagine the induction noise! mmmm

Thanks for the cam specs Ren.

Does anyone know how to relate/convert cam specs that are dimensions from a crosssection of the cam to these numbers here?

    Thanks.

That sounds like a fairly mild cam, lots of midrange.
My brother had used 230^@.050" x 0.392" lift and they fattened up the midrange heaps and sounded great. We could never time them in properly due to inavailability of a spec sheet. The top end wasn't very inspiring but still an improvement over the 88210 cams.

    For comparison
Standard 88210 cams run 214-217^@0.050" lift x 400-407 thou. max lift
88270 cams run 209^@0.050" lift x 382 thou. max lift
Strong like horse, smort like tractor!

Yeah Steve, it does sound pretty promising. Plenty of midrange torque is pretty important to me, and that's what the stock 18R-GEU had.

Although I wouldn't call 292/292 advertised cams mild for a street engine, compared to some race spec cams I guess they are! Thanks for the 88270 cam specs by the way...

They look pretty. Always thought the ones with the vanes on top were 48's but l have the older one. Have you got likages for them ?

One tip, look at the size of the ports on the back of the carbys and look at the port on the manifold, get your mechanic to make the manifold the same size. Should give you a better flow rate and a little more power.

Those ram tubes are the 60mm size, you might have to put a small nick into the tube to get it past the brake booster, but it will not effect anything and just turn the tube down to the bottom so no one can see it.
