they break cos they are relatively brittle... the fracture surface will appear more brittle than ductile...
brass and ally can be ductile, but it depends on the processes used to make the part.

I traded some things with wilbo666 for all 3 forks.
Box back together and good to go for another thrashing!

I have been thru a few in my car, one 1-2nd and one 3-4th.
I fit new ones every now and then to my race box as they are only $80 for both for my W57 here.

I looked into stronger ones' but they were going to be a PITA as I dont have acess to anthing to make them with.

A guy we built an AE101 race car for had a couple of bronze one's made for his R154 box,
but then the box itself kept having issues, so they put a hollenger in it.

I have just purchased a heat treated CrMoly 1st/2nd selector from Hi Octane.
It was made by Pfitzner Performance Gear. List price is $385 + GST + delivery - or approx the same price as the gearbox was.
The price is good - it is CNC machined from a billet, and is quite light.
    YelloRolla's KE20 1/4mi = 11.32 @ 119mph @ 22psi on slicks
    12.44 @ 113 mph on 165 wide street tyres
210rwkw - not bad for a smelly 3TGTE running pump fuel.

Is probably good price for quality part, but i only paid $182 for my last box, can't justify spending that much on w box

The whole gear set is about 9000 - I can justify that too, but I cannot afford it. In fact I would sooner get a Jerico box.

I justify the selector like this - I've pulled the box apart on four occasions, that is out of the car, on the bench, make the changes, eventually made a selector etc. etc. $450 ix cheap by comparison. Like other Toyotaphiles, I am budget conscious (read: tight ass) but this is money well spent.

Anyone had experience with dog box conversions on the W series boxes?

No - but I would like one. They are exxy though. As above, the Jerico starts to look good, especially if you want to sell it later IE a Jerico box will appeal to a wider audience, and with the $AU being strong at the moment it is even easier to afford.
