I've not noticed a lean on Peewee's one, and he uses a CRS bellhousing.
Fitted my 1UZ into my Cruiser on the weekend, and it appears the CRS bellhousing is inducing a lean to the engine.
What are peoples thoughts?
Should I try to correct it by modding the gearbox crossmember or will it be ok?
Engine mounts are yet to be made. The only bad thing as far as I can see is that it looks odd when I open the lid.
The blurry line in the very foreground is the radiator support panel, to give you an idea of the angle.

Crown (1uz) motors are actually mounted on an angle...
I wouldn't worry about it...

Can you please Mr Witzl?Originally Posted by The Witzl

Wilbo, does a stock UZ lean as much as mine above or not quite that much?
Hmm not that much, and it leans the other way also (drivers side is higher).Originally Posted by Gabe

i'll agree, that is quite a hefty lean!!
I would try to adjust the lean on that back to more vertical. Im pretty sure my UZS131 leant a little bit, but in the other direction as wilbo suggests

So is the tranny pan flat with that lean, pressuming that your runing an auto, i would compromise a bit between motor & tranny, just redo the mounts slightly ...
The factory 1uz in 90 model crowns, run a slight twist as some of the boys have said, but its the other way,to i think clear the steering box ...
What box are you runing & what made you run a CRS bellhousing ...
i definately would not leave it like that, doesn't look right & could have oil pick up issues if the oil gets low, & cornering hard ..

I would be redoing the mounts and seeing what else can be done to remove the lean. I assume the H55F cant be rotated with the forward output shaft and the shifter?

Sorry I should have given a bit more details.
As stated in my first post, it's in my Landcruiser. I'm not running the auto, but using the stock H55F manual gearbox.
CRS housing was used because it was either that one or a Dellows unit.
Chris, i'm sure the box can be rotated slightly to take out some of the lean, and I can even mod the shifter to suit. The problem will be if I try to rotate it too far, the front drive shaft will be raised close to the floor due to the transfer case hanging off the side of the gearbox.
Lexsmaz, the oil won't ever get low, I make sure of that.
Cars run up and down hills all day long, putting the engine at a greater lean than what it is now. Surely it won't cause any serious issues....??
Yeah, thats what i was worried about. I wonder if CRS have sent you the wrong bellhousing? From memory the bolt pattern for the H55 is close to a W box? The last cruiser i saw with a 1UZ conversion sat bolt upright with the H55 box.Originally Posted by Gabe

Completely different.
The bellhousing is tapped, not the gearbox.
The bellhousing is bolted to the box using 4 massive bolts, external to the bellhousing, bolting forward.
That's probably not very clear, but it's different none the less.
Like I said, it is possible to get it to sit straight using this anti tilt plate, but to be honest, I don't feel like dealing with them again. I get the feeling they close their eyes when they head to the shelf to pick the parts a customer wants.
Oh wait, im thinking of the G52 out of the Hilux.

WTF, i ran a CRS BH and had no lean? Me thinks they have sent you the wrong one? Either that or their jig was out?

Yeah I have no doubt their housings are ok going between the UZ and other boxes, I think the problem lies with the H55F housing.
It's common for boys running these housings to have a lean to their engine. Most correct it with these anti tilt plates which bolt between the housing and the box.
Their logic is that because these housings aren't in high demand, they won't worry about correcting the jig as they only sell one or two a year.
