I was under the impretion that laws are laws.
Thanks for enlightening me of that possibility tho.
Have you had this experience yourself?

engineers are "flexible".. you just need to find the right one the laws are open to interpretation... ie: the weight toyota says the car is, or the actual weight of the car.

And once you've got it passed, no hwy patrol officer is going to know the difference if you say your car weighs 20kg more (or say the 2j is 2930cc).
It is ever so slightly dodgy, but your chances of getting caught are tiny

of course, some people would say a vvti 1j would be legal and provide more than enough power/torque for an old celica

i know one that is a freakin contorsionist (spelling) but the prob is the engineer may sign off on it but that does not mean its going to get RTA approval as they can knock back a car at their discretion which sucks but hey thats life.

sorry,i thought you were in the 2.5x category.

    cheers

If it helps I have a 1JZ crank in the shed I can take some measurements off, I also have spare rods & pistons too...

Just putting this out there, but wouldn't a properly built 1JZ already have way more power than an RA28 could reasonably handle? Is it worth all this effort to get an extra 500cc's?

If you're going to all that effort, just drop a 3.4 stroker kit in it - then at least you've increased capacity by nearly a litre.

I'm with Norbie - a well built 1JZ will make more than enough power.

Buy dead 1JZ, buy 2JZ, do nasty evil things to engine number, and hope like hell that nobody notices The 3.4 stroker kit would be a nice touch as a bit of an added insult too I suppose...

Wink Re: 1jz vs 2jz crank.

The engine number is by far the simplest option. Basically you can mod the internals to deceive, or you can mod externally to deceive. Either way your doing the same thing. If you had to spend $200 to get your number changed 'professionally' it's still cheaper and easier than what your are proposing, with the same or better result.
If you really want to get the cubes down from a 2jz you could possibly offset grind the crank to remove some capacity, although like suggested earlier an engineer is likely to overlook such a small blowout.

It sounds to me that you are actually liking the idea of building/engineering an engine yourself, and possibly looking for any excuse to convince yourself? Makes for frustrating posts from people replying trying to convince you what is actually easier and simpler, rather than what you actually want which is to undertake a project that is deemed unfeasable in both time and money sense (ie crazy). Now what would exist in the world if people always decided to spend huge amounts of money and time on cars??

Hell, why not go all out and build a custom just-under-three-litre V12 from a block of aluminium from scratch? Something you could rev the tits off of! THAT would be cool!

haha, what do you mean a 1j is enough! its never enough!

Just gotto to be the biggest swinging dick in the pits : D

But seriously. Thanks all for comments.

I am crazy in a sence, but its entirely just a thought of a project. Heck i havent even finished building 1uz that was going to go in it!

Could you please take some snaps of the pin side of the pistons?
    That would be great.
