best way is to put an NA engine in there and keep the 3tgteu for later IMO.
Hey guys,
I have an opportunity to get a 3TGTEU powered Celica, but due to the P Plater laws I cant drive a turboed car. Turbo's aren't something I've done any research on so I don't know anything about them, but what would removing the turbo and having it run NA mainly involve? And would it be worth using this engine without a turbo? I just need a basic answer and if it's feasible then I'll start my researching![]()
Cheers,
Matt

Turbo cars run lower compression ratio's for the forced induction, NA cars run a higher compression ratio to breathe, if you were to remove the turbo it wouldn't be vary powerful with the low compression ratio.
as saoid above, best bet would be to remove the complete turbo engine, and install with a NA designed engine.. 18RG, 2TG etc...
Daily - Prado 90series
Work - T908 620hp Cummins ISX
Shed - 1975 TA22 2TG
you could remove turbo and manifold, and bolt on extractors and go. but why? it would be pig slow.

How long till you can drive a turbo car?
your best options will be to buy turbo celica, pamper/modify it until you're allowed to drive it. have non-turbo daily
Otherwise, just wait until you can drive turbo cars to buy oneyou'll need to modify the exhaust (custom set of extractors), work out what to do with the oil lines for the turbo (and water, if it's oil and water cooled), then you'll need to work out some kind of airbox to come off the throttle body... and at the end of the day you have a car that's slower* than a ta22!
* not based on fact or experience
Oh its ages till I can drive a turbo car, im only 17 now, I have a TA22 (the one in my avatar) but an opportunity for a different one has come up. I want to sell mine and start a project from the ground up basically. By the sounds of things its definitely not worth it - using the 3TGTEU, I guess I'll go a different route then, and start a rebuild on a first gen keeping it old school with a 2TG or 18RG. Then once I get off my P's I'll look at putting in a newer turbo engine.
Anyway, much appreciation for the help guys!
