    Default t18 diff on a ra28 q's

does any one know how wide the t18 diff and the ra28 diff?
and if i would be better off with the t18 diff a vn or hilux diff?

need to know coz with the sr20 the stock diff isn’t going to last long

    thanx

Hilux diff would be your best option, however an LSD will set you back a bit.
A commo diff would be cheaper to purchase initially, but they have to be cut down as they are too wide. Then custom / shaved axles. $.

And a T-18 diff is almost the same as the diff in your RA28. There are only external differences such as mounting points. They are both T-series Diffs, so neither one of them is going to be stronger than the other, and they will not hold up to an SR.

Go hilux and don't look back.

    dont bother with T18.

Hilux strongest .. then a shortened VN.

I only say hilux over VN as ive heard a few storries on whining VNs etc.

thanx for the info it has been a big help i think i might lock my stock diff until it breaks i will try to take it easy . i think i might go with the holden vn diff in the future because i have been told the hilux is hard to find and the vn diff has disk brakes already.

If you are thinking of going the VN commodore diff, i would be considering the R31 Skyline diff. It is the same Borg Warner 78 series diff as the commodore, it has discs too, it is about 1450-1460mm (face to face) so should be about the same length as the commodore diff (maybe even a bit smaller) . Biggest advantage is that the PCD for the axles (28 spline) are 4x114.3 which is standard Ra28 stud pattern. It also shares centres i.e. for LSD with the VN commodore and other BW78 series diffs.

I have been told the ra28 diff is 1365mm wide any way the r31 diff sound like the way to go and 1450-1460mm should not be a big deal thanks for that, probably just saved me lots of money if i don't have to cut it down i will see how it looks.

This is how it looks on my ra28, isnt mounted yet but gives you an idea on the width:

And even with a bit of massaging the celica trailing arms and upper arms will fit:

Theres a bit more info on my members ride and for updates (in my sig below).

Nah isnt cut down at all. Yeah thats with +32 offset wheels on at the moment. So with some FWD offset rims you should nearly be set without rolling your rear gaurds. Im trying to suss out some rims at the moment, not many places want to know you with the offset and PCD though.

quick question for those putting high offset rims on the back cos of diff....wut are you gonna do for the fronts? wouldnt it look wierd with the front wheels with a lower track than the rears? Or will you be running spacers?

I might need to run spacers but I will stick the diff in and decide if I want to cut it down or not, is there any issues hooking up the 28 tail shaft I haven't looked, is the r31 tail shaft the same diameter as the 28s tail shaft so I can just change the end of the 28 tail shaft to the 31's if I need.

that is what i was trying to say, if the tail shaft diamiter of the 31 is the same as the 28s i can just swap the yoke if i need. DoctorDubb do you know if they are the same size and do i even need to change it?

    thanx
