External oil leaks are rarely a BHG symptom, and the compression numbers look OK. More likely you just have an oil leak from the cam covers or something.
hey guys im new to cressida and i was wondering if i could get some input before i take my car to get the headgasket fixed.
Problem: Car has leaks around the buttom end and the oil sump but i couldnt see for sure where it came from coz theres alot of stuff in the way and cant see the main block. The engine has a knocking sound and idles at around 600 RPM but theres no overheating or smoke from the exhaust. and the Oil is full.
Checked: Ive checked the compression test and this is what came up on my tester. Dont know if this is too high or normal for 7M's ...
1. 200
2. 190
3. 190
4. 190
5. 195
6. 210
cheers

Compression seems pretty good. BHG usually happens around cylinder 6 and it seems you have good compression there.
External leaks are most likely because of seals, etc.

600 rpm idle is ok,
The knocking is something that'd make me wonder about the health of the engine though.
If there's no smoke/steam from exhaust, and the coolant and oil are ok, then it might not have a bhg. What makes you think it has one?
(apart from the fact it says "7M" on the block)
hehe well ever since the knocking sound, leaking and the rpm dropping i instantly assumed it was a BHG since every thread ive read about the 7mge seem to have the BHG written all over it.
well, since you guys dont think its BHG imma just try and see if i can locate which seals are gone this week end. Im just glad to hear that it isnt the HG.
Ohh and btw the knocking only occurs while idling but goes away when i rev.
a BHG is entirely possible if it wasn't doing that stuff before... just keep an eye on it, maybe retorque the headbolts if it hasn't already been doneOriginally Posted by tailz
how loud is the idle knock? is it deep? or just like a little tap or rattle or something
just little taps its abit faint and sounds hollow
It will be from the cam covers.
Buggers always leak.
Another way to check if its BHG is if the oil in your engine is milky. If it is then the HG is gone however it doesnt seem likely as your compression readings seem fairly consistant (within 20psi of each other) and there is no overheating or smoke.
Could even be a sump seel or damage around the sump plug.
If you really suspect BHG, take it to the mechanic and get a TK Test done. That will check for any vapours in your cooling system.
