Default Increasing track on a FWD

We're trying to add about 2cm to the front track on the Malaysian AE-101, and the owner is worried that the half-shafts won't take the extra extension of 1cm per side.
I reckon it'll be fine, but I was wondering if anyone knows for sure.
If so, how far can we go? I can just as easily add 3cm per side. (and would like to)

1 cm per side.... seems small enough not to be of consequence.

2-3 cm per side... then I'd spline the half shafts

I think it's about halfway, and there's a good 4cm total travel in the inboard joint. (A three-legger) I figure it'll be okay as they're set up to accomodate a heap of droop/plunge from a stock road car and the racer doesn't, so we can use a little of that travel to move the front wheels out. I'd like to go 3cm a side but that's too much for the joints I think.

at risk of sounding like a noob, I assume you are modifying the front LCA's to increase the track bill?

cant you do that to get your 1cm but then change the wheels to get your extra 2cm?

or are the wheels class based or limited in some way?

Gaining the extra 2cm that way increases the scrub radius and I don't think they'd be wanting that on the race car.........I could be wrong though.

There are different length outer shafts in the Toyota range, I've been digging around and found that they can be plugged into different tulips without much drama.

You have a AE101 20v with equal length shafts?

I know that AE101 20v short shafts are shorter than EL44 short shaft. Can't remember how much longer the EL44 is, can measure one if you need the numbers.

The spanner in my avatar is actually a 16mm, that's why it's still new

    Thanks - Yes it's a 20v with a 6-speed box under it. We've got a good set of half-shafts and we'll stick with them.
And yes, spacers are bad news for race cars, amatuerish for any car.

    re the splines
i have several customers running those splines in rather powerful cars
granted not circuit cars, but several drag race.
so the strength isnt an issue, the c/vs die first.
so using less of the spline wil be ok.
however you will have to take into account the HP of your car etc

    please, no more PMs!
