Default XF throttle body on 7mgte?

    G'day guys,

I'm after some opinions on whether it would be worth adapting an XF throttle body to work on the stock 7mgte manifold? I'll be running standalone so the signal won't be a problem.

By my measurements, the stock 7m throttle has a rear ID of 60.2mm the XF 67.8mm

    7M left, XF right.

    It's a close match up, and could likely be adapted by either;

Tapping two new threads for the top bolts, and elongating the bottom holes on the XF TB diagonally so the standard bottom threads in the manifold could still be used.

    or

Cutting up an adapter plate out of some steel, with recessed holes for the stock bolt locations, and then running some new threads tapped into the steel adapter for the XF TB.

The major modification required would be cutting away the excess alloy in the manifold to widen it up to the 68mm of the XF TB which you can see in this picture.

What noticeable benefits will I get from running a larger throttle body? My intercooler piping is going to be replaced and my intercooler inlet and outlets are still only about 60mm ID (probally not even that) so there is a bottleneck there. Is it worth going to the effort?

    Cheers guys,
    Ashlin.

the factory TB is 60mm and the xf one 64mm so its probably not worth the effort involved.
60mm id piping should be fine for 600hp@wheels.

choice is yours but i wouldnt bother.
    cheers

    yup - agreed...

stock TB unlikely to be posing a problem.
a bit of fun to do for the sake of it *cause you can* but thats really about it. might get a bit of throttle response out of it, but that'll be only because the XF will open up quicker (in a surface area sense) than the old one

nice, thanks for the heads up, will stick with the stocky for now then. Might have a play with the XF one in the future if i get my hands on a spare intake manifold.
