Default 1GGZE rubber engine mount destroyed

I have finally finished my 1GGZE into a 4runner/hilux conversion, I used the hilux rubber engine mounts and made an adaptor plate so they lined up correctly.

I took the car out for its maiden offroad voyage and completely destroyed the rubber on the drivers side mount. I gave it a hard time to test it out. It just didnt hold. Ended up coming home on the back of a car trailer.......

Anyone have any ideas of what engine mount I could possibly use or modify that are going to be strong and readily available in WA. I used the 4cyl hilux mounts to start with as i thaught they would have more chance holding up to the abuse and bashing around that 4x4ing does but it wasnt the case

I was thinking a holden V8 mount but I think it will be too hard to play with.

Were you using brand new Hilux rubber mounts or 30 year old jobbies?
If they were old can you not just buy new ones?
I know a mob that can custom make polyurethane mounts if you are interested...

    They were brand new

I got 5 hours use out of them before one let go. I was hoping to get something that is alot stronger

the ones I was using have a single stud coming out of them for the block side about 10mm in dia and maybe 50mm thick rubber, the plate that bolts onto the chassis has 2 bolts in it maybe 12mm and about 120mm apart. (I will have to modify them anyway to suit as the bolts dont line up, about 20mm out)

I just want something that is going to handle the torque, maybe poly is worth a try. What else is strong and easily modifyable ??

I have 2 weeks before I get back to my car and want to have all the stuff to do it before I start on it.

    Would Something like this work?

I'm thinking that I am going to use these when I drop a 1GGTE into my RA65

Thats about 95.25-107.95mm for the spacing on the baseplate, 49.20mm tall.

    or this one

Baseplate spacing is 141.27mm and 66.68mm tall

No Problem, those are Energy Suspension GM(the top) and Ford(Bottom one) Transmission Mounts. You can get them for about $20USD pretty much anywhere online.
I plan on using the top one because the hole spacing is just right for the 22RE crossmember and I'm pretty sure the 1G has a single bolt for the motor mount on the motor.

If you use them can you post a pic of them mounted?

Have you thought of using a torque rod? I've never had the need but I know another guy who broke a few mounts. He fitted a steering idler arm as a torque rod and it stopped the problem.

The ideas are flowing I like the idea of a torque rod, I have a spare one too

I have emailed someone who makes them so I will pass out the details when and if I get a reply, if not, It will be down to the local auto shop with my broken mess and go through all their mounts until I find something that will work

perhaps look at the angles that the force is being fed through the mounts...
