A bit of a google, and the honda nsx has run one since 93, but i havnt found any aftermarket items as yet.

Could a 12v oil pump be used to run power steering? what pressures does power steering run at compared to oil pumps?. i know theres alot of pressure placed on the pressure side of the p/s system.

I found one for sale in the UK, but looks to be all joined into the steering box.

Hydraulic pump from a forklift can be used as a pwr steering pump, however I'm not aware of an electric driven one.

The one we used was mechanically driven by the alternator shaft, and it was being used on a mud racing vehicle so the visual appeal wasn't a priority.

    Might be worth checking out.......

    Cheers

The hydrolic pump will still be driven off the crank, id say he would be trying to eliminate that either for power, or hasnt got the room to mount it inline with the crank.

If one was available for a half reasonable price, id buy one just to get rid of the pump from where it is not so much for power, thats just a bonus.

Yep, I had a feeling that would be the case, but I thought I'd chuck my 2cents worth in anyway.

    Cheers.

Bill, is it a standalone unit, with hoses running to the steering box or is it built into the steering box?
