Setting the trim pot then unplugging it doesn't work either, it goes back to a default value which isn't much help

Whatever you do, its only a short drive as you mentioned, nursing it on vacuum isn't going to hurt it so long as you have mixtures somewhere close to the mark, unless you are a VL turbo driving mang that will not be able to resist the "choof-choof-choof" of compressor reversion every 10 seconds after you bury the boot just to see how it goes

16:1 at cruise is fine no doubt, but how would 16:1 be when he's slowly accelerating away from traffic lights?

If Norbie's like the rest of us he'll have probably a dozen set of traffic lights to potentially stop at, hills he'll have to drive up, etc etc.

For the 20mins or so it will take to change all the values to being closer to what he needs, I don't see any other option as something even worth considering.

I've had to do it before with my ecu. I wen't from 215cc injectors to 440cc injectors.
Sat there for about 20mins in the passengers seat with the lappie on, and went through and halved every single injector pulse value.

Also made less work for the dyno operator as it was closer to what it needed to be.

Had I just done the fuel trim by +100% he'd have to sit there and change all the values. (yes, Microtech sucks when you change injectors, luckily you rarely do it more than once)

I'm a little bit wary of fiddling with the existing maps, which is why I wanted to play with the fuel pressure instead. If I really have to do it I will, but is it really such a big deal to have 80psi fuel pressure for a short drive? It's not like my fuel system can't handle it, I have 3 Walbro pumps FFS! (And yes they're goddamn noisy).

I'm not disagreeing that's prob the preferred option but as Norbie doesn't want to touch the maps (scaredy pants) hiked fuel pressure will work just fine.... and @ 60-70psi we both know he won't be at 16:1 a:f off the lights. I was just using that figure to illustrate that lean doesn't mean instant engine failure.

save existing map to disk (surely a newish haltech can do this)
tweak current map (there will probably be a re-scale function hidden somewhere to make this quite fast)
drive like to gold coast like a grandma
present both maps to tuning shop
go to RZ or Bill S's workshop and drink their beer
    return to BNE next day

How far are you driving Norbie??? From roughs calcs, you only need to run the 740's at 135% what they will be to get enough fuel... so that means bumping your 40psi base up to 54psi...

I run almost that now for my everyday car.

I'm driving Brisbane to Gold Coast so it's a fair distance, mostly highway though.

I got the plenum back on last night and had a go at starting it, no success though. I played with various fuel pressures right up to 80psi but all it would do was splutter and backfire. Not sure if it's still too lean or if the timing is out; I'll put a timing light on it this weekend and see what the go is there.

Plugs are brand new so it wouldn't be that. I sure as hell hope I didn't get the firing order wrong, nothing would surprise me though!

get passenger with laptop to tune the cruis emap as you drive, based on the O2 feedback

(if you had MS, you would just change the "required fuel" and everything is taken care of )

if you can7t get it started, fark around with the startup and cranking enrichments... (after saving old map first )

With three of them it's easily as loud, although with the big cams and exhaust you can't hear them at all when the engine is running.

That's if I can get the damn thing to run. It was going great on Saturday then refused to start on Sunday. Time to torch it to the ground?

Plugs probably fouled to fuck from over fuelling.

When first getting my 1UZ going, it was baaadly overfueling.
New plugs, car would start perfectly.
Let it idle for about 2mins, and it would stall from overfueling.
    Would not restart.
Remove and clean plugs, perfect again until stalled from overfueling.

True, it was running very rich when I had it going so the plugs might well be fouled. Thanks for the tip.

    Oh and here's some photos:
