    Default GT35R on a 2JZ-GTE

I just got my Supra back on the road after the V160 conversion, so what do I do? Pull it apart again.

OK here's the deal. The engine is currently dead stock apart from a bleed valve and custom dump pipe, but I've been accumulating parts over the year and now I've got everything I need for a serious upgrade. This includes a Garrett GT35R turbo (1.06 rear and .82 front), eBay SS manifold, HKS wastegate, HKS 272 cams, 700cc injectors, MSD CDI module, and a Haltech E6K ECU.

So anyway, the first step is to get busy removing the stock CT20A twins. This took a solid two days of work, a whole can of penetrating oil, two pairs of shredded hands, and any number of curses directed at the bastards who made the whole sequential system so difficult to disassemble. Eventually it all came off though:

And for the first time I was able to sit the shiny new manifold in the engine bay and see how it all fits:

As expected it wasn't a perfect fit; the wastegate flange fouls the steering shaft so it will need to be cut and shut before I can go any further. Apart from that it looks good though, plenty of clearance around the turbo and adequate space for a 3" dump pipe.

    And just for laughs, here's a CT20A next to a GT35R:

    More pics HERE.

Stay tuned, there's much more to come and hopefully there will be a dyno graph at the end of this thread with at least 500rwhp on it! I'm so going to die.

I've done the 2j turbo removal twice now (once for joorsh's 2j ma61, once for my jza80).. never again. Used all my inox, half of joorsh's inox, and even then it required us getting creative with spanners and sockets to get them off.

If it makes you feel better, plugging up all the extra holes on the 2j is also fun

LOL I actually used a chisel and a large hammer to remove one of the nuts. Bastard came off but it will never go back on again!

You mean like the oil and coolant feeds/drains? I've been wondering about that myself, methinks more creativity shall be in order!

    Screw you guys!

Manifold is currently being modified by Rz the metalwork whiz from PF. Assuming my measurements are correct and the wastegate fits it should all bolt together, then I need to construct a dodgy temporary dump pipe and drive it to an exhaust shop. I was hoping to do all that this weekend but I don't think the manifold is ready yet.

Not sure on the timeframe for the rest of the gear, got a few more things I need to sort out - fuel system being the biggest one. Finding a sensible/legal place for a surge tank and a couple of external pumps isn't so easy when you have a liftback.

Just stick it all in the spare wheel well and use a cover plate?

when i install the surge tank in my MA61 ill make one with really long metal piping. ive already done this with a RA40 (although slightly different) and it worked tops. if you make the metal hoses long enough and all pointing down, you can push them through grommets in the boot floor. this way there no rubber hosing or fittings inside the cab (= no fumes).

youll probably want to mount the pump(s) under the floor. one way you could do it is to mount the pumps underneath the wheel well. make a raised bottom in the well, then use a space saver from a Z10 soarer as a spare. youll be left with about 150mm between the tank and the wheel. downside is youll have to drop the tank to install the pumps though this would be a good compromise for neatness IMHO.

i assume its mostly the fumes your worried about?
