Finally the real weight of a 20V

88kg is very believable.... i mean i can *just* pick up and move a bare 4A-GE without accesories and manifolds (just block and head, same as sam did here)

Where the weight starts building up is (approximate weights only here):
- flywheel, 8kg
- alternator, 6-10kg (they arent light)
- all brackets, 5kg
- airbox, intake manifold, 5kg
- exhaust manifold, 5kg
- aircon compressor, 3kg

.... you get the idea. Just my estimations above is about 30-35kg.

heres what I found for some weights:

-flywheel: 6.9 kg for silver, 5.9 for black + bolts

-alternator: thats a good one I will weigh it later

-brackets: unknown I threw all mine out because they weighed so much!! they are huge chunks of iron!! I will try and weigh them if I get some

-airbox + manifold: yep 5kg weighed that one, aftermarket trumpets + socks losses 3kg of that

- exhaust manifold + air con: also a good point, I will try and weigh them also

so we are looking at about 120kg then all up? still not bad I think

Yeah it's not bad... and it pretty accurate considering the figures thrown around about the weight of a 4A-GE.

I know my 18R-G weighs about 130-140kg all up.... but it is a fair chuck of cast iron compared to a teeny weeny 4A.

When I weighed my Blacktop flywheel it was like 4.0KG.. minus bolts.. so hmmm

witzl: thats way lighter than I expected, come to think of it I just finsihed pulling an engine out of my friends car that is now a bare 18rg.... time to do some weighing!!!

anyway I went outside and did some weighing, i also took pics for anyone who wants to see. Keep in mind my scales arnt the best, Heres what I got

- 20v alternator: 4kg

- 4Ac style starter motor: 4.5kg

- 4agze FWD cast iron manifold: 6.5kg!!

- long 4-2-1 steel 16/20v extractors: 6.5kg

- block to gearbox lower brackets, engine to engine mount brackets, rubber mounts and bolts: 5.5kg

- block to gearbox lower brackets by themselves: 1.5kg


now getting a bit sidetracked....

- T50 gearbox, with shifter, belhousing, thrust bearing, clutch fork, rubber gearbox mount but not mount to body bracket: 32.5kg!! (everyone claims 25kg)

- sump, baffle and oil pickup off a ae82 bigport: 3kg

- bare block off the same engine: 29kg

- crank off same engine: 12kg
