Tightening gives less fuel, the ECU thinks its getting less air

Oh, and a consequence of that, the boost cut went up. Mine used to cut just over 15psi religiously, 3 notches and I never hit cut at 18psi

I hit 20 psi the other day using standard ecu, I dont know whats going on there with no adjustmants either. Im not sure if my AFM is from a 1G though

SOLD : 1GGTE Rt142 Corona - Twin TD04-9b turbos - 180rwkw = 13.1 @105mph
does the 1g actually have a map sensor? if not it will be a mass airflow cut in which case you may get 25psi @ 3500rpm but still not be pulling as much airflow as it would at 7000rpm with 16psi.
havn't paid alot of attention to them but never noticed a MAP sensor on them so i thought id ask.
cheers

Airflow meter...apparently the map sensor on some 1G's is for a factory boost guage in the dash of some cars...like my shitbox
Mozrolla, I have a mines ecu in my soarer with no boost cut and my car loves 1.2 bar...goes very nicely for a crappy little 1G thats for sure!

i know ive said this a few times before, but i really dont see the point in playing around with the afm, or changing the standard injectors, on a basically standard 1g, im not trying to have a go at anyone but can someone enliten me as too why they do this.
i know for a fact that the 1g that is now sitting in magicmitches engine bay, has a standard computer, a standard afm, and standard injectors, the only mods are hks single turbo manifold, with an old as the hills t04 turbo, front mount intercooler, 3inch exhaust and a boost controler, and runs 12.5 sec et at 111mph all day, the car hadnt been dynod so not too sure on power levels, it was only put on the dyno to check air fuel ratios. with that mph youd have to think the car was making around the 200kw atw mark.
now back too my original querie, wouldnt a single t04 turbo push a lot more air volume than the standard shitbox twins, at the same boost pressure?( i forgot too mention that the 12.5 ets were ran on about 18psi) so why would the air flow meter be maxing out, or the standard injectors for that mater, on a near stock 1g?
now back to the thread question, for cheap 1g performance, if you already have a front mount intercooler and three inch exhaust $1500 will get you a hks single turbo mani and a cheap turbo, and say a 5 hundred for a dump pipe, mods too the cooler pipes and a half a decent fuel pump,( which you probably should have anyway )
thats pretty cheap performance in my books say $2500, with a set of decent tyres, and a single turbo conv, youve got a pretty quick car, like i said though thats asuming you have the basic mods of a boost controller fmi and an exhoust.![]()
cheers steve,
24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case..................coincidence?
1ggte, 11.22 @122mph
i have sort of worked it all out and it wont cost me much, my mate knows some one that can make me up a custom single turbo mani for about 350 to 400 dollars, i can prolly get a decent front mount for about 300 and for the exhaust and cooler piping its gonna cost 1500, i have a cheap boost controller already, ill get a cheap turbo, crank the boost up and i have a mate that can chuck it on the dyno and see what shes putting out...
so no one has any ideas as too why they think there air flow meter is a limiting factor on there 1g![]()

Because 200rwkw is about the limit of what it reads and about the limit of the injectors (theoretical of course).

so is it a mass airflow cut or boost? coz there both very different things when you actually think about it.
ie TO4z @14 psi =250rwkw
or T25g @14psi =150kw obviously there airflow is very different.
when playing with flap type afms adjusting the spring rate can cause leanouts and pinging if you go too tight with the spring, but normally a couple of notches and you should be ok.
notice the word SHOULD i never said that it allways works.

Airflow as it's not a MAP setup. I'm with you though a couple of notches would be all i'd be happy with without going on a dyno
Teh UZA80 - Project Century - Remotely p00'd by association
i was under the impression that once the flap in the afm hit its stop fuelling just stayed constant for the rising boost level, so it would lean out after that, hence that there was no real boost cut as such. Ive hit 20psi plus on a blitz 450 odd hp turbo on standard ecu and afm and no cut. Could be different for 3rd gen motors i guess though

As for injectors, I run a mines ECU (No fuel cut etc) linked to Apexi SAFC-II (not full stand alone I know... but better then nothing) and blitz turbos, the turbos will boost enough to make the stock injectors max out if we are keeping the mixture right, hence why I think its worth upgrading injectors! - I just hope it proves to be reliable at 1.5 bar over time..... (trust intercooler, balanced internals, flowed head, adjustable cam gears 3" exhaust etc)
I'll probably get the spring tightened up when its on the dyno having the safc/cam gears set up, I just need to work out if I can trust the stock GA-70 rev 3 fuel pump, and if I uprate it (likely) will the stock FPR hold up ok...

nope when it hits the stop theoretically it should introduce a fuel cut.Originally Posted by ekoston69
thats why ppl put fcd's on to allow it to hit the stop but not introduce the cut.
