I thought that wasnt reliable?? I have read to stay away from it because it chips, but I havent looked much into it personally
also cant you just order a blank from toyota and grind it? or its it a large enough diameter for what you have in mind?

Toyota don't sell blanks.

they do according to a place near me, it was clive or wade cams I cant remember, but it was in relation to a set of 20V items, only $350 a pair I think, but it was a while ago
Sorry for the confusion, I was referring to an earlier post in this thread.Originally Posted by Sam_Q
Getting back to the original question of whether the 5af has bigger cams than a 4af or 7af...
It can quite easilly be determined with a dial indicator with a base and a degree wheel. Pop the cam cover off, set up the dial indicator so that it reads the cam lobe, zero it and rotate the engine through a few rotations, recording the reading on the dial indicator every 5 degrees or so.
You can even plot it all out on a graph when you're done![]()

Thanks to James Cameron's Terminator films, we know that robots are stronger, faster, tougher and more Austrian than the rest of us.
You could also get billet cams made up, in just about any material you like, but they aint cheap.

while that is very true I am going to do something else; I might as well pull the cam cover off that 5A engine while I am at that wrecker if I get a moment, I will measure the low section and the max lift with a vernia indicator.Originally Posted by Starfire
SamQ,

dont worry I will, its the main reason I am doing it, I will try and take a picture of the ports too, thats assuming I end up having enough time to do so.Originally Posted by normality78
I would so laugh if a 5A head is an undiscovered monster in disguise, I majorly doubt that though.
Yep.Originally Posted by normality78
I've had stellite cams go for years with no problems at all, but others that develop small pits and have to be repaired. It's no big deal, you just have to keep an eye on them for the first few months every now and then to see how they're going.
Then have another look later on, and if they're still okay then they should be good for a long time.
