    Default 2JZGE into RA23/28?

Sorry to bore everyone with this topic.
I had a strange thought and I need your advice, and I think Norbie has done this before now anyway!
If a 7MGE can be mounted into an RA23/28 using 5M-E engine brackets, and the MA70 Supra became the JZA70 mid-way through its life, can a 2JZ-GE be bolted into an RA23/28 using 5M-E engine brackets?
Or are all 1/2JZ engines into RA23/8's custom mounts?
I know the 2JZ is taller again than the 1JZ, but is it only the turbo motors that foul the steering box? The N/A's are OK?
Thanks for your time and patience to hit the keyboard with some answers for me.

nah, youll need different mounts, not 5me...

however, if you find out secifically what model car the 5me mounts are from, then there might be a jz engined car with a similar mounting position that you could use. if the interchangability is already there, then its a distinct possibility that it continues accross engine families.

fwiw, 2jz is 25-30mm taller than 1jz, but almost identical height to the 7mge

    cheers

    Thanks Ed.
This is why I was thinking of poking around under MA/JZA70 Supra bonnets, buts its morely likely that these engine brackets changed to get down onto the Supra crossmember - so I am grasping at shadows again.
    Cheers mate.

Sorry, there is absolutely no similarity between RA23 and JZA70 engine mounts. You'll definitely need custom mounts for this job.

    Rear exhaust manifold will hit.

Dare I ask why you would put a heavy long motor in an RA23?

Put a 3VZ in it instead. Lighter, more compact and I'm making adaptor rings to mate them to a W50 gearbox.

Thanks Norbie and GT...I had vague ideas that these would be the just some of the problems I would hit.
I have been discussing a 3VZ as well with a bloke in the Eastern States.
What is involved with bolting one of these down to an RA23 crossmember please?

A few issues. New engine mounts, ideally you'll need a TA23 Xmember (3VZs seem to be mostly front sumps when turned around into RWD configuration), one of my adaptor rings and you'll need to front mount the dizzy and reroute the cooling system. At the moment I can't comment on clearance issue with the drivers' side bank exhaust manifold and steering box.

    Perhaps follow my thread.....

Consider your thread followed and keep me in mind for an adaptor ring. Is 269Nm a bit marginal to put through a W50 g/box?

It will survive provided you're gentle with 5th gear, which is the known weakness in these boxes.

Having said that, a W58 conversion is easy and IMO worthwhile.

    Talking Re: 2JZGE into RA23/28?

Yes, I like W58 myself, and very worthwhile.
I like GT's thinking just engineering the engine side only and leaving everything from the gearbox back as standard, I just can't help but wonder if a few hard take off's in this set-up is going to see axles twisting inside the housing?
IIRC the standard 18RC is a 133Nm 'torque monster' while the 3VZ does nearly 270Nm of them, and that is a big difference.

You were considering a 2JZGE which has more horsepower and torque than a 3VZ. With a 3VZ, anything breaking will be less of an issue.

Yes I was...that is where this whole post started.
I was going to back this up with an RN27 axle and G series LSD.
How is your front mount dizzy conversion coming along?
    Thanks.
    Mitch.

Haven't started yet but I suspect once I get a motor, it shouldn't take much.

    Fair enough.
Thank you for your advice, its good to know.
What has steered you away from using a 5VZ 3.4l V6 from a Hilux?
I take it that these engines are backed up by an R154 g/box and they don't fit into RA23/28 tranny tunnels?

the 5vz would prob use abit to much fuel
as the hiluxs are thirsty might be due to weight
    not sure

but these engines are only few yrs old so expect to pay alot for them

im doin a 5vz into an old hilux on wed
