Can anyone recommend a good product to clean the last remaining fuel out of a tank and then not stick around and make it rusty?

how would you load it up with wd 40, are you talking about totally, pulling it appart and cleaning it or just spraying wd40 down the filler.
Jason
you should be able to get the wd40 in from the filler, the pump hole and the level sender whole.
i just used soapy water, the rinsed it good, compressed air to blow the remaining water out then wd40.

im talking about fully pulling it out...
although, like 45aken said, i dont see a problem with draining the fuel, replacing the bung, filling it with water, the draining it while pouring more water in (whether through the filler hole, or taking the fuel pump out), then once it goes clear, blow it all out, and then load it up with WD40.
if you wanna be sure, fill it up with 5-10 litres of fuel after your all done, let it sit for a while, then drain it all out...
fuel soaks up water like no tomorrow!

yeah i took mine fully out too.
the only reason why i used the wd40 was because i knew the tank was going to be out for a while. the water wouldnt clean off the slimely residue, so i used some soap/chemicals to get rid of it (needed welding so i took no chances)

or use diesel or motor oil... and then clean it out later with petrol...

for welding, if you fill the tank 90% with water, you are excluding the air from being present, and explosion will not happen... just fwiw...
of course clean it first with warm soapy water... then fill.. then weld, then empty and dry.. and then oil for storage![]()
