if that's what you want to do run 10-20% toluene at the track...much cheaper than race fuel and very easily available. There's an article on it in this months Zoom magazine.
Im thinking Mainly at reducing any knock once it gets some heat into it. So i wont be losing any power whilst running via timing retardation from any induced knock.
If it was outright power, I would fit an ECU and Some martini M110 and tune it on the edge for more power all over....
I guess i will take a punt and try it and see how it performs
I know Fuels wont rally increase power, but knocking can reduce it. So as long as i eliminate any knocking that may occur( if it does) then i know its running as best as it can in its current state of tune. Thats all.

You are already running vpower racing plus octane booster right? AFAIK 1jzracing has had good results with the same fuel plus toluene. I only run vpower plus martini super boost but microleb as you know so no knock issues for me.
You're only looking at one end of the equation though. Sure in the top end it's knocking and you'd most likely have to reduce timing to get it safe up there. Although you can also get more fuel in to reduce temps and also have potential to fuel more boost than he is currently running which could end up with more power up top.Originally Posted by chris davey
The big thing though is it only knocks up top. I'd expect there is a lot of mid range power to be found with decent management. I know everyone says mid range doesn't matter, but when I compare the times and speeds turbo cars run as opposed to the big old V8's it's always interesting to see the V8's running the same times at lower MPH, indicating quicker times with less power to weight.
No doubt a programmable ecu AND race fuel is the best answer but for one or the other, I would be going some fuel or as was said add some toluene to the current mix. Just seems that his car is performing very well with the stock setup apart from a minor knock up top. For the small expense of getting some decent fuel in there to see if it helps, I would be doing it. Then afterwards get an ecu and tune to the same fuel and see how much difference there is.
Increasing the octane to stop it from pinging in the top end is going to cost power though. As I discussed earlier in this thread, the higher the octane a fuel is the less power it will generally make with the same tune. He'll almost definately lose power everywhere other than where it's pining and likely lose some there as well.
This is why I'd recomend programmable management as the first step.
Great info coming in guys, cheers.
The KNock is not bad at all, In fact it only hit twice on my 3rd run. I guess that can be put down to Heat soak. SO im trying to see if the fuels will help eliminate that chance of knock.

I would aggree with Joshtix on that 100%. Thats why im looking into running a fuel with 102 octane or so. I just want to try a fuel that has a 102-103 octane rating, But doesnt contain Ethanol.

Give it a go and keeps us informed mate.
Like I said I reckon it will be useful in suppressing knock but if it were mine I'd be going with management first.
I look forward to seeing your results either way.
Dieseltrain, what are you using to detect knock?

If you're hearing det with the naked ear at high speeds on the track with all the other ambient noises then its decent enough to treat as an immediate concern![]()
Reasonably lean mixtures (12.4:1) under full noise at high rpm combined with detonation would account for soaring cylinder pressures & temps. Add an oxygen rich race fuel and these mixtures may push even further in the lean AFR range with enough timing (which it sounds like you have plenty timing up top already). I guess it can't hurt to try your choice of race fuel on the dyno to see if it is satisfactory, but it still seems like a bandaid solution to only part of the problem. On the other hand, the slower burning race fuel may be just enough to combat the 12.4:1 mixtures though. Let us know how you go
Cheers

Thanks for the info peoples....
Saving $$$ and going to run a Greddy Emanage Blue with my Blitz Ecu... The Blitz is already better than a stock ecu at part throttles, but We will just tune it for WOT at higher Boost levels..
We should get a nicer power curve AND i will then have the advantage of doing a Full on Race tune with the M110 and really set things cooking
Hopefully in the next 4 weeks... And then we shall see what this thing can do
THanks again.
