Strange light problem with ae86 dash

My dash is freaking me out. Usually it works fine no problems, all guages are fine and all the lights work. But sometimes it will just randomly have the backlights turned off. Everything else still works, the guages move, the indicator lights move, the high beams light works etc, just my back lights are off.

It happend to me the other day and they turned back on when I accelerated a bit and my mate opened the window at the same time. Window probably has nothing to do with it but It's really starting to annoy me because I like to see my gauges at night. Any idea on what it might be? Are the pllug in lights on the dash cluster wired in series, ie maybe one is a bit dodge or on it's last legs so they all go out?

lights are definately wired parrallel

sounds like it is your light switch, though the little connections that clip on the cluster could get dodgy (they are just copper on plastic sheet stuff)

if you decide to pull it apart to have a look, remember there is a nut on both the light switch stalk and the wiper control stalk

Yeah already pulled it in and out twice lol. I think it might just be dirty contacts or a loose conection. Gotta rip it out to have a closer look at it anyway so I'll do that on the weekend. 3rd time this week

Common problem. Resolder the connections on your light switch. There's a guide on the old forums.
