    Default KE30 - XT130 Front Struts

Hey guys, i got 2 sets of complete XT130 struts, was wondering do these bolt straight into KE30's?, i know they are used with the hilux/pug conversion, but just wanted to know can i just bolt them up?

    Cheers Trent

it does with conditions, im putting XT130 struts into my KE35 and i have found the following

1st. the bolt spacing on the steering knuckle is out by 2mm but the ke30 and XT130 shares the same ball joint so u can get the steering knuckle from the XT130(or RA40) and bolt that to the KE30 ball joint. I have heard people drilling them out so they fit but i wouldnt recommend that.

2nd. the spring seat does not suit the KE30 spring, you can use the XT130 springs, but they will be high (perhaps cut them - not recommended by me, or buy a set of "lows") or weld the KE30 spring seat onto the XT130 struts (i have done this)

depending what spring you use will determine what upper spring hat you use

and you can use the KE30 strut tops on either spring setup

just so u know KE30 and RA40 and XT130 and RT132 lower control arms are all the same as well as the ball joints its just the steering knuckle that the strut bolts onto thats different on the KE30 (possibly so you dont bolt corolla brakes onto celicas or coronas)

When he said complete struts i thought he meant knuckles and lcas too. Thanks for pointing out the small differences though.

Anyone know if the steering knuckle bolt spacing and ball joint on a tt132 is the same as a xt130 etc? I have tt132 struts and need the steering arms to put them in my ke35. thanks

i dont think the TT132 was australian delivered but i found one and pulled it apart at a wreckers about 10 years ago, it only had single pot front brakes instead of the sumitomo twin piston calipers, the engine xmember was exactly the same as a TA23 (measure confirmed) so i deduced that the front end is the same as a RA23/28/40.

so there is a good chance they are the same steering knuckles

Yes they are, I'm using TT132 struts and they bolt up to KE70 arms which are the same 85mm spacing as XT130. I think the KE70 arms (probably easier to find) are shorter that the Corona arms for better steering lock? Will see if I can take some comparative measurements for you. Be aware though the brake caliper mounts are different to the XT130 so you can't do the Hilux caliper/Peugot disc brake upgrade that they are generally used for in Oz.

Shorter by how much? There are a few corona arms on trademe at the moment but none local, so ke70 ones might be the go. I'm using r32 gtr calipers with custom brackets, and in this case the wider bolt spacing comes in handy, although its still a tight squeeze.

KE70 arms 130mm, TT132 are 140mm. Apparently KE30 are 130mm so the KE70 arms will be a better match. Strut bolt spacing for both is 85mm. 99% certain that KE70 and TT132 balljoints are the same (based on the longer Corona LCA's being used regularly in the KE70 and AE86, have a search around here), From info above the balljoints are the same as KE30 so no problem swapping steering arms. You need the right KE70 steering arms though as some are 87mm (mostly early stuff running steering box rather than rack) and the later ones ares the correct 85mm. My 85mm ones came from a 1985 station wagon.
