Yes you are both correct. However, I was asking if anyone knew the volume of dish for the 8.9CR GZE. Everybody seems to have answered everything but that question.
I have looked through your FAQ, the old forums, club4ag, google etc but I haven't been lucky enough to find any reference to it. Maybe I haven't been using the right keywords or maybe I just suck at searching!

I promise when I finally do get my engine apart I will measure it and forward the info for you to put in the FAQ.

Benjamin.... yeah i know, those volumes arent covered anywhere. I dont know why you really need to know them though - you just buy the damn pistons for $400 from toyota, put them in your engine and forgot about them

And yes... stu settled the "GZE pistons forged or not" argument when we supplied him with the 8.0:1 and 8.9:1 gze pistons to chop up and analyse

p.s. Stewart, you never finished your analysis of the pistons...... GET TO WORK YA BUM!!!!

    1) the GZE rods that I've dealt with are unique to that engine. they are much fatter than either 16V or 20V ones. The early silver top 20V rods are almost the same as late 100kw. the black top rods are unique. Despite racing these engines for a long time, and running an engine shop, I've never seen a 4AG toyota rod break, so discussion on "weak" is all nonsense. However, any of them can fail by rod bolt breakage. All 4AG rods use dimensionally identical rod bolts

    2) I have never been able to tell externally which blocks have squirters. I've never found a 86kw engine with them & only a few 100kw ones. In australia, the 100kw engine only came with squirters in some AW11's and a very few AE92's. Not all imported GZE engines have squirters.

    My rebuttal:

The part numbers from Toyota clearly show that the AE92 smallport (post 9/89) 4A-GE and 4A-GZE share the same crank and rods.

Likewise, the AE101 4A-GZE and 4A-GE (silver 20V) share the same rods and crank, which are different to the AE92 variant (rods slightly smaller on AE101, crank unknown difference)

Blacktop 20V rods are indeed unique, no arguments there

I've never known an AW11 to be sold in australia with a smallport 4A-GE, however EVERY SINGLE smallport 4A-GE/4A-GZE i have pulled open or seen pulled open has the oil squirters present.

the rods in my 7 rib bigport 4age are the same size as those in my 7 rib bigport 4agze (actualy both engines are identical except the pistons).

as witlz said, the aw11 never came with a smallport engine, so never came with an oil squirter block.
indeed, not all gze's had them. the bigport gze's dont.

FWIW I pulled down a 7rib GZE block today and for the first time ever found.. oh my god! ... No oil squirters the engine was originally from a AE92 half cut that i used for a conversion for a club member a couple of years ago.

ERGO i revise my comments based on a new experience

So is it forged or not? - forget that I found it.
