Default 3SGTE Cooling System Layout *urgent*

    Hey all,

We've got a rally on Sat and are having problems with our cooling system.

Has anyone got a diagram/picture of the layout of the cooling system of a 3SGTE in a GT-Four.

What we're chasing is the layout of the cooling system in particular reference to the bypass system around the thermostat.

We CANNOT seem to get the car to not overheat, I think the thermostat isn't staying open as once the bypass is hot enough to open the thermostat, the cold water rushes in and closes it, and so it's stuck in the vicious cycle. The alternate (heater) bypass pipe would only render the cooling system ineffective?? if all the hot water was routed through there and wouldn't flow onto the thermostat properly anyway.

We're unsure of the factory layout, and wondering how we can proceed and get the thermo to open properly without all the factory frills on the bypass hose. I have seen an arrangement with the top pipe on the bypass shut only the bottom open, but unsure as to how that would actually help cool the car and even open the thermostat, as inside the housing that particular opening almost circumvents the temp sensitive bit of the thermo.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Rob

Should only need the oil cooler setup. On the RWD conversions i have done i have just blocked off both the pipes out the back of the thermo housing and had no overheating issues? Sure the thermo hasn't gone ?

Justen, Tim says you need a life haha

Who replies two minutes later at 11pm at night dude appreciated!

OK, new thermo is in (yes, genuine) so you blocked off both the bypass but left the oil cooler one??

What activates the thermostat then, just the 'static' heat?

Just got back from a training ride

From memory the oil cooler line does the same thing as the bypass? I remember at Dubbo we had to braise up those two pipes off the back of the housing as the rubber bung that was blocking one sprung a leak. That engine was fine and didn't overheat.

    alright, I found a diagram

so you say you blocked off both bypass pipes heading into the thermostat housing there?

We did but seeing you have the stock plumbing in place i would just run as shown?

I had a TRD thermo in there but just runs things a bit cooler (76deg i think instead of 85?)

well we don't have the heater or the turbo cooling going on.

Might try blocking off the two bypasses and seeing what the oil bypass only does to the system.

The water just refuses to go through the radiator! (rads like brand new)

Did you loop the heater lines back into each other or just block them off? Loop them back into each other if you've just blocked them off, these cooling systems fuck up in a bad way if the heater plumbing is wrong

Turbo plumbing I'm not sure on, if you're still stuck I'll post up some diagrams from the EPC when I get home tonight

You are moving water though right? Water pump hasn't shagged out?

Just for kicks try with no thermo (2 secs to pull out) and see how you go

hey guys thanks for your help!

good heads up re: heater, what we've done is relocated the thermostat to the water outlet, long story but way better solution overall I think

anyway more on that soon.. it's late, and we've a long way to go to the rally tomorrow!
