Default Heatsoak in my GZE AW11

The other day I drove up a long steep incline for about 1.5 minutes, I was in 5th gear, with a continuous 10psi to maintain the cars speed (100kph). I pulled over without waiting for more than a couple of seconds for the car to cool down. I wasn't thinking I admit.

A few moments after shutting down there was a bit of boiling going on! Anyway I turn the ignition on, and my electric water pump fired up and I let it circulate for a few moments. Moment later, no boiling 'phew!'.

Anyway today After driving home i did a test to see how much heat soak I am getting ::
My coolant was about 78 degs all the way home (sedate driving). I turned the car off. Waited one minute to allow the block heat to get into the non circulating. After one minute the temp was up to 94 degree where it more or less sat. Turning the electric water pump on and about 20 seconds later the block water temp was back down to 78 degs.

Anyway just wondered if anyone else has noticed so much heatsoak effect after shutting down their cars?

I am now going to modify my custom ECU to run the water pump for 1 minute after I turn the key off.

    Cheers, Nick

IMHO, the EWP should be controlled purely on the temperature, weather the ignition is switched on or off, have you just got it running continuously?

you could run it off a parralel triggered relay with a turbo timer running one of the switches, or just hook it up to turn on if the temp is above 50degrees celcius

My custom (I made it) ECU has a PWM drive to control the pump directly, and also even though the injectors and coils cant work with the key off, the ECU can still control the pump and then shut itself off when its ready. I am just keen to know if anybody else as observed how much heat soak can elevate the block coolant temp when their cars are shut down.
    Thanks, Nick

We have alot of heatsoak when the big mustangs come in screaming hott off the track, they run quickly up it o the garage with the thermo and EWP running brake pads and sometimes ever drums get pulled out and wait for it all to cool,

They can sit off the track for 10 minutes then suddenly blow a hose cause the block holds soo much heat

I have noticed a bit................ Not quite as much as you nick but it is still there.
My engine runs at 88 deg and when shut off can jump up to 94 - 96 deg. I dont have a electric water pump so i usually turn the car off for about 40 sec -1min and then restart it again for 20 odd seconds just to circulate the water through the system if i have given it a hiding.

It also helps to leave the fan on till the temp comes back down.
