    Default YouTube/Videos Sticky?

    Hi all,

(sorry if this idea has already come up)

How about we create a misc YouTube/Video sticky in the general & non-car discussion forums?

It would be a good way to stop all the crap "look what i found on...." threads that just keep popping up.

Should keep the number of those threads down (less admin work) while still allowing for discussion on videos that are put in the stickied threads.

Other forums have done this with good success...

I think it is a good idea. I see the look what I found on the internet threads as breaking up all the dedicated threads in general. Plus if you actually find something good then I think wanting to share it with others is fine. Doesn't have to be great discussions or anything.

bah! this has been talked about for ages and nothing will come of it

I personally don't see a problem with it, because it's still a case of "if you don't like it then don't view it" and you won't have a problem; but this is more of a tech forum.

Like chris said, there are some good things on there worthy of a mention on the forum

We could always just make them technical, ie dyno runs, car videos as opsed to real useless junk

The problem is, everyone has a differing view on what is "technical".

    I say NO.

If you have a real technical and relevant video on youtube, then post it in a relevant thread. Eg. i've posted a youtube video link in the tractor engine thread, because it is my tractor engine revving out.

Posting your mate dosing his VL down chapel st is not technicaly related to anything on toymods... but someone would inevitably think it was.

    i think there's a difference between

"look what i randomly found on the internet"

    and

"look at the car thing i deliberately posted on the internet for your information"

i agree with Teh Witzel, and if ya'll end up doing it. I'll start becoming more and more like supraforums.com.au . were you will find the most of the people online either in the forsale section, or the multimedia section.

Who said anything about it being a section... just make it a sticky.

Also, who cares if that sticky thread gets filled with misc crap?
The point is to keep all that crap contained and in one thread which doesnt need to be maintained.

i was never refering to the sections as such, i was merely relating the two together.

i mean, at the moment there isnt anything here, which is good. It keeps the 15 yo's from posting fully sick burnouts and drifring, which theres nothing wrong with either, but it i want to watch them i'll go looking on youtube for it.

Sure, ill agree with that... but the "look at this video" threads still show up dont they?

Plus most of us, im sure including you, like looking at the occasional funny one too.
So why not have a sticky where they can live and be commented on without the 24hr lock?

I dont see a problem with having a sticky intahweb thread as long as people dont go adding piles of moving gif images or massive pictures to it which will use up bandwidth and slow loading times down for some people...maybe to help this anything that goes past page 2 is automatically deleted?

If someone doesnt like the intahweb stuff then they dont have to go in and look at it or comment on it and if it is all contained in a sticky then it doesnt clog up the main forums.

I can see it would still need a moderator though to prevent anything thats not appropriate being posted or massive images posted.

I know toymods is largely a tech forum but not everyone has the knowledge or inclination to talk only tech stuff which I think is why we have the intahweb threads pop up.
