Unlikely, but check that all the wiring you removed isn't shorting with something else...
I have just ripped out the original stereo out of my 76 celica and now i have no power to the coil. What the ???? I swear all i did was rip out the old stereo. And the taco Needle is bouncing mad when i try and turn the car over.
Power to the Starter...
Are there more fuses than the ones on the driver side. Is this a blown relay. a blown coil or a fuse somewhere. This is really odd and I dont want to pay $200 for an auto elec to come out. If someone provides the right answer and saves me a bundle of cash, I will provide a bottle of grog.
Thanks

I even rewired the original stereo to see if this helps and No luck. Why Why Why... It is driving me Mad.... It bounces like a mexican jumping bean as soon as you turn the power to Ancil.
Ahhhhhh, I have changed the coil, the battery and still no love. Power to the coil, but the spark is a bit lacking. Going to take to Auto Elec and pay him $88 an hour to try and work this out. If I find out the cause I will post it for all those that may have the symptoms of a bouncing taco needle.
before you waste money on the sparkie:
-your stereo was probaby providing a continuous earth or power source to the ignition system, now something else is and it's not liking it at all
-your original stereo install was probably dodgy
go find a haynes or other manual for a celica, trace the various power circuits, also check that earth wires in various looms are actually earthed (e.g. no resistance between them and the battery), check that power gets to various circuits as required,... and the obligatory check all your earths (including battery to chassis and chassis to engine)
Man did I hit the Jackpot with the Auto Elec, I rang a guy he came out for two hours then towed the car back to the shop as he couldnt work it out and only charged me $88 to fix the issue. Dirty Points and Moisture. ACi in South Melbourne. Great bunch of blokes. They install Immobilisers and central locking for $380 including unit and I asked if i could stick around to pick up a few pointers and he said no worries.
