maybe your valve stem seals need to come out to change the WP too...![]()
I'm getting a new water pump the thermostat fitted on Tuesday or Wednesday so barring any mishaps there, I'm still set... now just to convince the mechanic that he DOESN'T need to remove the timing belt to change the water pump so it won't end up costing me an arm and a leg.![]()
If he insists I'll also be out siting similar reasons to Matt. I'm not doing a timing belt change on an engine that's just going to come out in 6 months anyway. I'll be going there armed with the Toyota Big Green Book (or at least print outs) to prove it too him. He's done a few water pumps on 3S-GEs and used to own an AE-82 with a bigport himself and keeps insisting that the timing belt has to come off for access. BGB says otherwise.

In the FWD ge's the waterpumps are fiddly enough to get out without the timing belt out let alone in hes right o say it needs to come out, plus to change the water pump you need to strip off all the cover anyway so why not spend 10min and $30 more and replace the timing belt for peace of mind

That's what most people aim for, it gives you time to rego/pay, unpack car stretch the legs etc before the track opens about 9am.Originally Posted by OnAll-FOUR
