TCCQ Night run - 2nd change of date to September 7

update 2: due to an organiser's scew up i'm trying to change the date from Friday August 31 to Friday September 7.

Night Runs (or Navigation Runs) are a fun, social and competitive event.

You're given route instructions that, if followed correctly, and driven at road legal speeds, you end up a specific destination for food, coffee and commiserations

Along the route you'll be given observational questions to solve (e.g. a phone number from a sign, or a name of a building, or an anagram of a street name).

The route is only roughly timed (you have 5 minutes leway either side from the time taken when settin the route) annd if you're too fast (e.g. you speed) you loose twice as many points as going slowly.

The distance you drive is also measured so short-cuts will trip you up - likewise if you travel too far you also loose points.

The route instructions are easy to follow, e.g. L @ T or SA @ LTS (which means left at T-intersection or straight ahead at traffic lights) and if you get stuck or lost, you can phone us for hints, help or the end point if you've given up.

As the competition series progresses, the questions get harder and the route instructions go thru more complex and tricky settings.

But a raw novice can complete and win an event (Me & Wilbo won the series last year and it was our second year at the competition).

You don't have to club member to enter a Night Run, but non-members can't win trophies at the end of the series.

If Phil can enjoy this then just about anyone could.. This wont be a particularly hard event, but skill at reading and observation (plus an ability to drive safely at road legal speeds) will be required.

All you need is a torch, UBD, mobile phone (in case you need help), a few pencils and a willing navigator ...

We need to get our numbers up for these folks or we join other club night runs (which would be more expensive than ours).

might be fun having to pull over every ten seconds to check a street directory though, i might have to get a weatherproof GPS

Merudo: you could try, but without a navigator i think you'd get distracted/annoyed constantly looking at a map
