    Default 4age C52 Starter Motor...Other Models?

I have a 1991 Seca SX (4age). I think the starter motor is getting a bit lazy so I wanted to swap it out for 2nd hand one. I'm having a bit of trouble finding a 4age starter motor so I was wondering if they are compatable with any other models 4afe, 7afe etc?

I went and had a look at a Seca that was being wrecked...I think it was 4afe. The starter motor was definitely physically different, I didn't check closely but the mounting bolts seemed to be spaced differently as well....

So can anyone confirm if there are any other more commonly available starter motors I can use.

Whats th e reason behind you wanting to replace the starter?

    You could try this. http://toymods.net/forums/showthread...=starter+motor

might be better of getting her rebuilt at an auto-elecy.

It intermittantly won't start. You can hear the solenoid flick across but it doesn't crank. I have taken the motor out and cleaned all connectors and greased up the bendix gear which hasn't helped. The battery seems fine and holds charge. The battery voltage starts at ~12.3V and then when I turn the ignition on it drops to ~11.6V which I think is normal and indicates a healthy battery. Sometimes rocking the car in gear helps but other times it doesn't.

My conclusion is that the starter motor is getting tired but I welcome other opinions or things to try.

I'm selling the car and it is not really worth much so I don't want to invest a heap of money into rebuilding the starter motor which is why I'm looking for a secondhand one as a cheaper alternative.

Just had a quick read of that thread...is there anyway to easily diagnose whether the problem is the starter motor, bad earth connection or dodgey wiring?

I've already spent heaps of time fixing various things on this car before selling...it's gonna really piss me off if I replace the starter and it still has the same problem!

have you tried that relay trick? there was a writeup on toymods.. and helped a lot of 7M engines i believe..

basically you pick up a couple dollar relay from jaycar or something..

again sorry, i can't do a search as my internet is really slow.. but yea.. it's a cheap fix and worth a try

it's probably the brushes, get a second had one from a wreckers or get it rebuilt. I drove my old corolla around like that for months. Mine had some burnt out windings as well. Stupid toyota decided that the exhaust side was the best place to put the starter - until the 20V when they decided to put it on the inlet side....

Hopefully this will help if you need to change it, or need to cannibalise another.
