Default 4agze utilising ge fly and clutch.

Hey guys sorry for another '4agze problem" thread but this one seems a lil over the top for me.

Now i have my car ready for an exhaust on monday, i took it for a quick strap down the road earlier. My problem is that with spirited driving it just free revs thru all the gears with out going faster. I managed to get a modified 4age clutch and lightened flywheel ages ago which has a slightly used clutch plate. It feels as if the plate just spins and the pressure plate isnt biting into it.

Already i have put a spring on the throwout fork thinking it wasnt returning out proper. It didnt make much difference.

Also ive had a quick read thru this thread and it seems as if my theory is probably correct.

The 4age clutch probably isnt coping with the torque of a 4agze, and the Clutch plate is quiet possibly spinning/slipping on the flywheel.

The pressure plate from the 4age wont be matched to the torque/power of the gze and wont have enough clamp

It might be time for a new clutch

When you say modified 4age clutch, what do you mean by that?

pressure plate has been reinforced and has a higher clemp load. fly has been balanced/lightened.

thanks for the help, i kinda figured that goin from 7kg fly to a 4 kg one would have its cons

might be time to put the w57 in but that has a standard plate too....

the flywheel shouldnt make the clutch slip, i think its more the clutch setup than anything.

Im using the 200mm clutch and flywheel on my 4agte with 170kw atw. All i have is a button clutch and a 800kg clamp force pressure plate.

Shouldnt be a problem if you have a modified pressure plate.

A good way to test a clutch is to try and take off in 4th gear.
If the car stalls the clutch is good ..... If it just revs and goes nowhere ...... time for a new clutch.

Have you made sure that the throwout is returning properly. Just putting a spring there won't necessarily do it. If the actuating rod from the slave cylinder to the throwout lever is too long, on returning the slave cylinder may be bottoming out and be preventing the throw out from releasing from the clutch fully.

See if you can push the rod back into the slave cylinder a bit more from its normal resting position. If not, you probably need to grind (or cut) a bit off the rod to make it a bit shorter. There should be some free play there. I usually like at least 5mm or so.

you shouldnt have any dramas running a standard clutch with a gze, although it shouldnt be a long term option. I'd be guessing the clutch isnt "slightly used", replace it with a button or heavy duty and see if the problem goes away

Sounds like everyone is right on the money. Replace the pressure plate and clutch disc for a good quality unit.
