Default TA22/ early anycar windscreen demister, anyone got one that isn't shite!?

Just got my car back on the road having had the defect and subsequent rego suspension fixed and I've remembered how bad the de-mister is.
Just wondering what others have done to combat this. I've heard 12vdc hairdryers can be used but havent been able to source any yet. (havent tried that hard though)
I did buy a 12vdc ceramic heater that I was going to replace the stock heater box with but its completely useless! Dunno if I got a dud but it barely warms up at all!
And the factory fan sucks too!

yeah those 12vdc ceraminc heaters are good but they draw alot of current. I had one in my other celica and it didn't do a thing even with direct connection to the battery. I think it draws like 20amps.
Whats the problem with yours? mine seems to work okay even when i removed the thermostat (just takes a bit longer to warm up and heat up).
I know my rear demister lines are stuffed but the jaycar silver conductive pen can fix that.
Usually what i do to demist my front windscreen is set the contol levers to:
    temp - HI
    air - recirc or fresh
defrost, and pull fan to high
and have the drivers window a bit open

yeah it takes forever but it still seems to stay foggy around the sides and the side windows never unfog when its cold, maybey it just needs a way better fan, like out of a newer car...

are your ducting pipes that connect to the window vents straight with no kinks and sharp bends. Have you tried taking apart your heater box and cleaning out the blower fan, i know you will get seeds and leaves stuck in there. Maybe the leaves are retarding you fan.
I know it gets dangerous when you can't see the road ahead.

sounds like either all the air is leaking out of the joins or your fan is not working properly...
often the joins have a foam tape stuff around them, after 30 years it may be rather deaded...

they are shite .......currently enduring one Melbourne winter with what seems to be a permanent fogged windscreen/ sidewindows has made me look to buying a modern car to solve this.......sometimes things do change for the better in the automotive world.

it also wouldn't hurt to check the water flow through the heater core. i have had some success with blasting the shit out of them internally with a high pressure cleaner. maybe even lash out with a new core, and reseal the box and ducting. the demister should be fantastic.
so much stuff. so little time.

how hot does the car get on the temp gauge?
the more engine/coolant heat u can get the better it will work.

    Hi,

The quickest way to unfog your windscreen is to use the air-con and put in on demist. It clears it up in seconds. Of course, if you don't have air con then this isn't going to help.

Ibzy-baby... I beleive there are repair kits for rear window demisters. Its a conductive stick-on wire or something (maybe some paint-on conductive stuff) that you use to bridge the breaks in the wires on the demister. I am not sure where you would get such a kit, though. Anyone know?

river, i get in my ute and swear my nipples are about to freeze off. last thing i wanna do is hit the aircon, its even colderer!!!
i reckon just carry a good rag and wipe it by hand if its that bad, a well set up system should have no issues clearing the windscreen in a couple of minutes even on hot.

Yeah river you should be able to get conductive pens from electronic shops like Dick Smith, Jaycar and the likes.

Yeah it warms up all right 86 deg.C. I don't think its leaves retarding the fan (It was cleaned out ages ago and the car has pretty much lived in the shed since then. The fan is just retarded period. Although I did notice at low speed when it runs through a resistor that it pulls line voltage down for some of the accessories, is this normal?
Maybe i should duct the outlet from the turbo to blow through the heater core!

You don't need to leave the a/c on. You turn it on until it clears the windscreen then turn it off. If you fog up again then just do it again. It doesn't need to be on all the time. The a/c clears the screen within a minute and you'll be right for a while before you need to do it again.
