isnt white smoke water?
BHG?
Elmo.
My 3sge got hydraulic lifter probs and the rings were going so i swapped the engine with another one i had sitting in a wreck. the wreck engine had been sitting there for about 14 months. Everything ran fine when i started it up and i ran it for a total of 30 mins over 2 days before driving it. During the test it was great, but i got about 2kms down the road before thick white smoke started pouring from the exhaust and the engine died.
any clues as to what went wrong? i haven't done anything to it since cause i'm pissed off but i need to get it going.
cheers

You did put new oil in it before running it right...?

yeah, i suspected head gasket.
and it had new oil. what do you think old oil would have done btw?

are you getting bubbles in radiator when its running? thats easiest way to check for a dookum headgasket
GA23(never finished-now with cracked block) JZX83 (Tyre eater) 3sgte AE86. by now i should know better.
White smoke is coolant.
You probably have a leaky head gasket that is letting coolant into your piston space through the gap in between your head and block.

i suggest you drain your oil and see if you have coolant in that, does the engine run anymore???
Old oil would have likely had moisture (water) in it which would have either done damage or burned, or bothOriginally Posted by mikie_121

Bluey smoke can be mistaken for white... which could be rings, valve stem seals or similar.
My 18RC has this fun thing where if I drive uphill around a right hander and hook into it, the PCV which is leaky overflows oil into the intake, rushing oil through the system and billowing huge whiteish clouds out the exhaust. When I straighten up, all clears up. First thing, check dipstick and radiator for milky residue. If that is clear, check spark plugs. I assume you put new plugs in didnt you?? If not, try replacing the plugs, and keep an eye on them as they will quickly show burning oil/coolant up.

A mates Rodeo had this problem....
BHG - Steam pouring out the arse....
As the guys have said, check the cooling system for oil, and the oil for milky water or anything else untoward.
if theres water/coolant in the oil, it will look like choclate milk.....very easily identified by just taking of the oil cap.....
true, but it will take a little more time for the entire oil system to milk up.Originally Posted by IN 05 NT
sounds like OIL to me!!!
never seen a blown HG do that, usually it start overheating and blowing all the water out long before
pull the plugs, if ONE or maybe two plugs are all gunked up and black then it might have stuck rings from sitting or rust on the bore or something, or worst have broken a ringland
compression test it! will tell you how fatal it is
if they are all similar black then i would dissconnect all the breathers etc from the manifold and rocker covers (cam covers) and see it if still does it, or if oil or smoke comes from anywhere, could be as simple as a blocker oil drail or stuck pc valve
a fool remains undescovered untill he speaks!
You'd samell if it was coolant very sickly sweet smell.
My bets on oil, over fill the oil at all, stuff rings maybe.
Did Rona touch the motor?? If he did then he probably passed on his BHG contageousnessotherwise probably PCV or similar... again I repeat, clean up/replace the plugs and see what happens.
