have you got access to an aircompressor/airgun?
clean out your dizzy by blowing it out as water might have gotten in. check out your dizzy cap or rotor button as this is symptom usually happens if you've been driving in the rain.
before that you can get some wd40 or water displacement spray and try that inside all the leads and cap terminals.
If you find that your car seems like its wanting to stall definately check the lead coming from the coil to the dizzy. Depending on how old your car is or when you last did the dizzy the seals might have let go and slight water might be going in.
You might not be over heating as you say your getting only half way temp on the gauge? Bubbling in the radiator cap means you have an airpocket as the MR2 hasn't been filled correctly/bled exactly to factory specs as theirs a special method needed.

My advice is try drying up the leads and dizzy first before you remove the head.
