Default 3T-GTE Injectors and CT26 Turbo

I'm just looking at a replacement turbo after my T25G for my 3T-GTE seems to have dissappeared into the ether. I wan't something that is going to spool up much quicker than the dodgy CT20 that they have and from what I've read on the forums the CT26 single entry can be fitted just by elongating some holes? Has anyone actually done this and if so - was the boost respons improved much and is there anything to be careful of?

Also - fuel rail seems to be leaking fuel at a rapid rate - does anyone know part numbers or a source for new seals for the injectors?

The ct26 is bigger than the ct20 so one would think it wont spool quicker but will provide more power, you cant have the best off both worlds unless you go to a ball bearing unit. the ct26 comes in two variants, dual entry and single, dual being off the 3sgtes and single off the 7ms? etc. the single entry having a steel wheel. The dual being ceramic limits your boost to around 14psi to be on the safe side.

Just about any mechanic will have new rubber kits for injectors, take one in and theyll sell you new ones for under 20 dollars.

What BeRad has said is correct, the CT26 will not spool quicker than the CT20, however, for the given amount of power that the CT26 can provide though, it is streets ahead of the CT20.

I did have a CT26 on my 3T GTE, and when overlaying the power curves, the CT26 was only a smidgen behind the CT20 through the revs, at the top of the graph it showed a clear improvement.

The fuel rails on the 3T GTE's have a tendency to split and leak fuel. I repair them with Devcon after cleaning and undercutting the split with a dremel.

I used a custom exhaust manifold for the CT26, but there is certainly a lot of evidence that the stock manifold can be made to work. I also had a custom manifold for the CT20 prior to going to the CT26.

    Tune up is critical.

210rwkw - not bad for a smelly 3TGTE running pump fuel.

Looks like the T25G might still be the go then, the CT20 had woeful lag, i couldn't handle that on a new turbo setup. Damn guess i need to get an adaptor plate made up again in that case - does anyone know a reputable mob in Perth that won't give me the run around and then steal or lose my gear?

Or does someone have a better low cost alternative to a stock CT20? Is there a newer toyota turbo that might come close - I didn't pick the T25G because it was smaller (its not) but the better impeller/compressor design just mean quicker boost. I have mates with monster turbos on the same size (roughly) motors that spooled up quicker than my CT20, made a butload more power too

Woefully laggy, it shouldnt be... what rpm did it spool?...i think possibly the ct20 might have seen better days and needs a rebuild, or a wastegate hose or a dump pipe is the problem. A while ago when i had my 162 i had a look at a ta22 with a 3t in it and 2 ct20s and it spooled well considering only 900cc is feeding each one.

I'm using a friends Silvia with CA18 and a 180sx with SR20 as a comparison - my friends CA18 was making full boost at 2500-3500RPM (about 14psi) - I'd be lucky to be making 5-7psi at that point (in low gears anyway) - Maybe it wasn't a great turbo, or maybe it was the 3T-GTEs lower compression ration that just made it feel spongy and take longer to come on song. A firend of mine has a 3T-GTE in his TA23 though and thats still pretty uninspiring in the spool up department, and its in quite good nick.

I'm not looking for much more than the stock CT20 can put out power wise, i'd much rather get a newer turbo that is the same size or a little bit smaller that can swing up a lot faster to make up for the 3T-GTEs off-boost performance, which is pretty lame.

Also keep in mind that they are drastically different engines and both the ca and sr will make better low down power than the 3t due to newer and in some cases better engine design helping them overcome some lag. It also sounds like the turbo on there might be having some trouble so maybe thats something to look at. After all they are an old turbo and most have had a hard life.
