    Default Supra 7MGE & W58 Specs

    Hi All,

I own a Toyota Celica T18 Coupe, and i'm not happy with it.
default i have an 4afe 16v engine on it, and i have a 3sge ready.

But thats not what i want, i want a 7mge in my celica.

Now i wonder, whats the size of the engine or/and the gearbox?

Because i wonder if it fits

I think you are asking for the physical size? That is, will a 7M-GE fit in a celica, like a RA65?
Any celica from 1981 to 1985 will take a W58 with no space issues. If you get one of those celicas, you can even use the existing gearbox (W55).

It has been done, so it will fit. But it isnt worth it.
Either buy a supra and put a JZ engine in, or a buy a different car that is decent out of the factory. - do you have MX5's in Holland?

Yes we do, i know it will fit in any celica from 1981 to 1985, but what about a T18, 1990?

I wonder if its possible (because of the size) to put a 7mge or 7mgte with the w58 gearbox in the celica t18?

I know if it works i'll face a lot of problems.
The reason why in this celica? because the celica is about 1100 kilos, and the supra is way more.

and i have a import celica, so i dont want to sell it to anyone (the one i have you dont see in holland).

    thats why

a 7MGE won't be pretty in a T18... that's a HUGE step up in weight if nothing else... i have some 7M engines in the shed, and they're big buggers, the 3T from the T18 is tiny by comparison, it's definatly not a project i'd like to tackle...

i'd definatly suggest a different engine option, something smaller like one of the 4A family, or 3TGTE, even 3S... but 7M... it's right up there with sticking a V8 in it... too hard

    OKay, thanks for the information.

    at the moment I have a 4afe and a 3sge (building).
But the 3sge stock is 156hp, and thats to low for what i want to, and also what i would like is rwd on the celica, but that will only work if you have an rwd engine at the front of you're car.

    4age, 5m, 7m?

the 3sge engine i have is also fwd.

    but thanks

Wait a minute guys, he's talking about a xT18x Celica (eg ST182), not the TE71 Corolla which was badged "T18" in Australia.

The answer to your question is NO, a north-south inline six will most definitely not fit in a FWD car designed for an east-west inline four. If you really wanted a six-cylinder engine you'll need to look at a V6 from a FWD car, eg a Camry - I believe this sort of thing has been done before. I have never heard of a FWD car with an inline six, and I can't imagine why anyone would try it!

ahhh okay, starting to make more sense now... (thanks norbie) the car is currently FRONT wheel drive? and you want to make it REAR wheel drive... if this is the case it comes into the "If you have to ask, it's not possible" catergory...

if your car is currently a 3SGE powered ST182 as suggested, then a 3SGTE is your easy good power ticket... to fit a 7M isn't even worth considering.

But he says it has a 4AFE in it at the moment. So what does that make it? an AT182? Weird stuff

Yeah some Euro-spec Celicas were fitted with A series engines, which means any 3S swap would be a good upgrade!

    Thanks for al the reply's.

At the moment i have a 105HP 4afe engine, in europe/netherlands the most toyota xT18x cars have a 4afe engine, or if you have 2 liters: u have an 3sge engine.
Those are all FWD (front weel drive).

If you have lucky, you got a 204HP 4wd but this are cars nobody wants to sell.
When you search for a celica in netherlands, you get only 1.6 ST-i, or 2.0 GTI and the 2.0 GTi cars starting at about 2500 euro's.

So for an car with a 3sge stock is way to much, and my car.. the 1.6ST-i starting from 1200 to 2200 euro's.

So even if i want a new car, its to expensive to buy a new celica.
The only option is upgrade the engine, or swap.

The problem with the 4line engine is: upgrading, a 3sge engine from the celica xT18x or MR2 (its the same) is for the 2th gen? i thought stock at 156hp (version i have).

You can get a max of 180hp from this engine, if you're lucky.
Its possible to supercharge it.. but howmuch boost it will give u? I dont know.

The 3sgte engine is the same engine as the 3sge but with turbo.
The problem with the 3sgte engine is the turbo, nobodys wants to have stock 204hp on a front weel drive car.

Upgrading the 3sgte is possible, but because of the 4line you not getting that much boost.

If you have a 3 liter 7mge , no turbo is stock about 204.. thats the same as the 2 liters with turbo.

    About the carmy.

Well i checked at a dutch site where all the information is about cars and stuf.
The carmy has (till 96) 1 3 liter engine, BUT: its even slower then the 2 liter 3sge from celica?

    Toyota Camry 3.0 GXi V6
    138 kW (188 pk)
    5400tpm
    255 Nm
    4400tpm

    215 km/h
    0-100 km/h 9,0 s
    This is at 1462 kg

    Now the Celica.

    115 kW (156 pk)
    6600tpm
    186 Nm
    4800tpm

    220 km/h
    0-100 km/h 8,4 s
    This is at 1239 kg

as you see, the 2 liter engine, even its 200kg less, its a lot faster.
If I'll put an 3 liter carmy engine in my car, i will have the same specs as the 2 liter 3sge.

I wonder, what (exept 3sgte) can i try for upgrade? thats a lot faster but not (yet) turbo'ed or have the same HP at he turbo version 3sgte (204hp)

something i could not find at our site but i see at wiki:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Camry

    3.0 L 1MZ-FE V6, 194 hp
    3.0 L 3VZ-FE V6, 194 hp
