It will work in so far as run alright, but it might feel a bit like a wet rag though. At least you'll be able to run on Safeway fuel without rattling!
I have a 100kw smallport that I am about to rebuild for a turbo setup and will be putting some 8.5 cr forged pistons in. Now can I just change the pistons to the 8.5 ones and run the standard ecu until I get a turbo, manifold, diff ecu etc. The standard 100kw pistons are 10.something cr.
So basically will this work or will I run into leaning out / too rich problems and stuff my motor? Obviously there will be a drop in power going from 10.? to 8.5 pistons

Not too concerned about power just want to get the engine rebuilt before it goes in my celica but I don't have all the parts for the turbo setup yet.
So basically it will be NA for a short time. It probably will be better to bed in the new rings on a "factory" ecu tune (although it may be different with lower compression pistons) rather than a getting a harsh time on a dyno doing the initial tune with an aftermarket ecu.
