    Default AE92 Vibrations at 90km/h +

After taking the CSi onto the freeway and getting to 90kmh, I started feeling weird vibrations in the steering wheel and through the floor. Below that speed, the car's pretty smooth. Only other weird thing it does is vibrate a little when it's in gear (auto) with brakes applied (gearbox/transmission mount perhaps) but it's the wobbling at higher speeds which concerns me most.

could it be wheel alignment/balance, struts?

just because a balance is done, doesn't mean it is any good

if you can feel vinration thru the steering wheel, swap front tyres to the rear, and check.

if it is still there, then it is somewhere inboard of hubs.. or alignment is an issue.

I hope it's not the goddamn steering rack. Pain in the ass.

It won't be the steering rack, it's gotta be something that's rotating when you're moving, at 90km/h+ it just gets up to a speed where it vibrates.. the steering rack doesn't rotate with the wheels

It's probably a buckled rim, or an unbalanced rim. Swap the wheels front to back like OC said and see if it makes any difference.

The vibration in gear under brakes is that when stationary? If so probably engine mounts and the car might not be running as smooth as it should be

Could also be a flat spot on a tyre.

check your wheels are turning when it starts vibrating also check your mudflaps haven't fallen off cause if only one side falls off could be unbalaced

    Cheers hope this helps

get ur wheels balanced and get a wheel alignment done.. then check that all the engine mounts haven't snapped..
if it still wobbles after u do these things then u will have to look further into this

if your doing 90kms an hour you would assume the wheels are turning ?

All the advice is much appreciated.

I was wondering about the wheel bearings but on the AE92's they usually give the tell-tale grinding sound. While I have the wheels off, is there anyway of checking to see that the wheel bearings are worn?

it could be that your brake rotors are warped - especially if it is doing it with the brakes applied. I have driven cars which constantly "joggle" the steering wheel at speed and it was warped rotors on the front that was the culprit.

to check if the wheel bearings are worn.. leave the wheels on.. jack the car up so the wheels dont touch the ground.. then hold the wheel with both hands one at the top of the wheel and one at the bottom of the wheel.. and try to shake the wheel.. as in push and pull with both hands.. if there is free play or noises it means ur wheel bearing on that wheel is gone
