Well, put it this way, i didn't enjoy driving it with such heavy steering lol.
Even if it's stiff it should be okay to flick. It'll give you better feedback anyway, which I imagine you want when you're drifting. I was under the impression that 'flicking' wasn't really what you want to do in a drift anyway? I allways heard that to do it properly, you don't turn the wheel as much? Anyway, that's getting a bit OT.Originally Posted by Bowlsclubboy

I just got my progressive power steering wired up and functioning. I had gotten used to no PS on the supra for a few weeks and it wasn't all bad, you got used to it. But now having the PS again makes the car feel really lite, as if 500KG has just been taken off the front wheels. I like it. It's also a nice change from the previous PS i had on the 7mgte which was always on, no feel at high speed.
I have a controller, yes....
.... however one is unbuilt and the other has the wrong PICs in it (built as boost controller kit).
Ed, you will need to be contacting me![]()
...... butt scratcher?!
Any follow up on this thread? Did you guys actually end up trying to adjust the PWM signal eventually?
Did any of you guys end up doing this, or been too busy with other stuff?

enlighten me phyiscs gurus, but i have extremely long PS hoses in my car, by shortening the length of the hoses in a more direct fashion and reducing the overall volume capacity of the PS system, what effect will this have on the feel of the steering?![]()

technically there shouldnt be any difference, once the pipes are filled (and all air is out), given the fact that the lines wont expand and contract any with the pressure, it should be much the same, as the pump and rack have to move the same amount of fluid.
Instead of starting another thread, I thought I'd ask here.
Is there a separate "ECU" for the PPS on a JZX81, or is it an ECU output? Where is it if it's separate? I'm using the rack in my MX83 conversion.

Would make no difference, in the same way that a bigger sump does not affect engine oil pressure. It's about flow rate, not capacity.Originally Posted by BlackSupra
Ed - What actually made the difference? Was it the extra caster or the PPS loom unpluged? I guess the second..
I sorta have the same problem with my RT142. Havent tried adding caster yet but if that doesnt work would this gizmo work for me? Or can you just adjust that valve that 'CrUZida' was talking about..
Thanks,
Chris.
since JZX81 is nearly identical to JZA70, id say, like the JZA70, there will be a separate PPS control box.Originally Posted by Gavatron
AFAIK everythings still in the loom, the only thing that needs attaching when doing the conversion is the radiators temp sensor.
I doubt the RT142 has the PPS valve that I spoke of.Originally Posted by pisso001
You'll have to do something mechanical or hydraulic to slow it down.

The PPS ecu is mounted to right of the steering column on a Z20 & A70 chassis, little box with inputs from a steering sensor on the column, speed input & rpm input too (i think)
I've rigged mine up with a switchable 0 or 12v supply on my Z20 drift car direct to one wire on the rack, 12v is super light for manouvering & parking, the 0v is heavy but ideal for dori action
Sliding his D1 Soarer around the UK
I wonder if i could rig up something simliar to 'cptsideways' on my corona..
If i were to put a pully on the power steering pump with a switchable cluch like Aircon and Supercharger pullys, then id be able to have power steering for steet use and when im on the track switch it off.. Would that work?
Thanks,
Chris.
