    Default Manualising a SV21 Camry

    Gday,
i have a manual SV21 camry, but the engine and body are screwed, (gearbox and drivetrain are fine)
and a mates G/F has a SV21 camry that is perfect but has a blown auto box,
is it a straight swap to turn it to manual? or would i need a manual engine?
any help is appreciated, i need to get my daily fixed

Alot of work for the improvment.... its not a straight swap.. but can be done easy enough if your half good with cars...

For example : the pedal box from yours needs to be mounted in the donor car, holes drilled etc. not sure with the sv21, but the ecu might crack the shits and not run or run poorly.

Many have been done on here, have a bit of a search and youll get the basic idea from other model cars.

It will be easier to just go buy a 2nd hand auto from the wreckers for a 100 dollars.

    Good Luck.

thanks for that, the improvment will be i will have my daily back in service,
anyone know what exaclty is involved? i have done a manual conversion to a few R31 skylines and was quite easy, but i have never worked on a fwd and was wondering how hard it would be with the driveshafts and if the engines between manual and auto are different with the camry? (the engine in it is a 3sfe)
    thanks

You may find the PDF w/s manuals helpful.

    www.toyotamanuals.com

They cover auto and manual models so you'd be able to identify the differences.

Apart from the 3rd pedal and the shifter with the numbers on the top

it shouldn't bee too bad if you have done other conversions. The engine will probably have to come out but it's pretty simple on the 21, mounts are easy to get at, bonnet off, engine up. Most holes etc should be there already or obvious where they have to go.

It is one of the easy auto to manuel convertions.
Engine is the same and the computer will not care.
All bits will swap over and wireing is just join the two heavy wires at the inhibitor swich for the starter to work and take the red/blue + red/black wires from the inhibitor switch and run them to the reverse light switch so they then work.

P.S. and you do not need to remove engine and drive shafts are the same.

if you have 2 complete cars, i am sure you will have enough bits to do the conversion. i did a magna once from auto to manual. all i had to do was swap stuff over, and drill a few holes. you can use the manual donor to find where the holes should be. the wiring might even swap over. engine out will be a big help.
so much stuff. so little time.

camry's are easy as, the FWD aspect of it caused a bit of greif for me before i even started, was a bit scared. turned out fairly easy though, i managed to find a way of taking the motor and gearbox out, while keeping the car rolling, and the subframe installed.

i wont lie though, RWD is a shite-sight easier to work on!
