well i had a 74 TA22 no SIB and another that did.

my 28 though has SIB ... being so old and with most having repairs in their life its pot luck wether you get SIBs or not these days.

I think we al value 'rust free' more than "has SIB'

but yeah, i'm planning on whacking some non SIB doors on my '28 for track work...
As if most cops know the ADRs, Im sure they have enough codes and regulations to keep up with. They all seem to have different ideas on whats legal and whats not on a car (mind you its not a requirement of their job that they know everything either, they just target certain things to keep some order around the place).

I think you're going to have to be VERY unlucky for the police to book you for not having SIBs on your doors when they are supposed to.... honestly you'd have more chance of winning lotto.

Would be interesting to see the actual difference in weight between a bare door that has SIBs and a bare door that doesnt. Anyone actually know of these figures? Anything significant? Im starting to think some SIB doors might not be such a bad idea with 51LII.

After my near miss in April where a girl nearly T boned her car into my drivers door (but missed and hit the back 1/4 instead) I have been a bit more wary. There isnt that much room in the celica as it is, can imagine getting squashed in by a car wont be pleasant.

    Dana,

I got T boned by a drunk driver who didn't even hit his brakes and he slammed into the passenger door. It blew out both passenger side windows and crushed the door into the seat and the seat into the trans tunnel.

The car was well f#cked but no-one was hurt bar some minor cuts and bruises. No SIB's in that old girl. There were 4 of us in the car.

Do you think there would have been any difference if you had SIBs? Some people seem to think they do make a difference, some dont. I know for severe crashes it probably doesnt make a difference and you're well forked yourself anyway, but in minor crashes it could mean the difference between you getting injured or not.

    With SIB - 20.3kg, without SIB - 13.3kg

    So 7kg difference.

Umm... they are in storage till they are ready to clean up and paint... thats the way they are staying. Both doors were about as bare as a newborn's arse, only thing they had were the bolts that hold the hinges on (no hinges though)

so those measurements were taken with no glass, or mechanisms then huh?

don't suppose you'd have the glass, mechanism and tracks laying arud you could put on the scales then?

    River,
    So the glass from a 28 won't fit into a 23.
