Default Celica powered 32 Ford Roadster

I've been using an engine crane from a mate of mine up here who builds HotRods for a living. Lance is a Ford man through and through but lately he's been talking about building a 4 cylinder hot rod for his daughter. Might have something to do with my two RA28s tearing up his dirt driveway. As soon as he saw my 18RG he fell in love.

So plans are afoot for a 18RG/Celica 5 Speed/Hilux Diff/32 Ford Roadster. If it turns out as good as Lance' other award winning Hot Rods it will be pretty sweet.

Do you think anyone would be interested in a thread about this little beasty???

It could be a year or two off yet depending on orders for more conventional Rods. But if time permits it and other 4 cyl Hot Rods could be comming off the assembly line.

    Any interest out there????

rods aren't my kind of thing - but i remember some melbourne-based guy on the megasqirt forum putting a EFI'd DOHC fiat 4cyl into a roadster/rod replica.

At last year's RACQ motorfest, there was a pspeedway car powered by an 18RG that ran on methanol - it looked very nice.

I'd be interested in some build pics for our club's magazine

Personally, I'd maybe consider a V V8 engine, to keep the classic look.

i reckon a really stripped out 18rg rat 32 would be the most awesome cruiser. some ridiculously loud headers poking out, decked to the s**thouse, simply awesome!

Theres a yellow A model roadster with a alfa 2L that regularly runs in the hillcimb I've competed in pretty sure itwas running a megaquirt too.

    alfa, fiat... Same diff

As much as I like 18RG's, I can't help but think it'll be out of place in a rod... But I'm sure it'll turn out awesome nonetheless- So keep us posted!

7ma61: that might be the car - the MS and italian engine are too rare for it to be another car...

    I'd be interested in pics.

Uhm.. is the choice of engine up for discussion? Is he aware that there are better 2L toyota engines out there than 18RGs? (it's only a semi-stir - personally an Altezza half cut would seem more reasonable if you can use any engine you want..).
Or are there other factors governing engine choices?

My choice too... something odd about seeing a 3/4 scale(kinda) "hemi" under the hood... kinda causes a double take....

A mate was considering a similar thing, the all alloy rocker cover and chunky look of the 18RG really suited the look he was going for. The 3T (single cam) was also an option for similar reasons. Remember, hot rodding started out with modded 4 cylinders until V8's became readily available. In England 4 cylinder rods were the mainstay as V8's were much harder to find.

4 cylinder where you pretty much only ever see a V8, believe it is a carbed 18RG.
