Got Fuel?
In other words, what turns on your fuel pump?
Hey peeps,
With the last car this 4AGE was in, occasionally when I started it I'd have to start it again because it sounded like it was running on 3 cylinders or something..
Now that I've re-done the conversion into the AE71 it's gotten fkn rediculous... Every time I start it I have to start it 5-10 times before it finally starts right, usually with an ECU reset or two thrown in there too...
As said before, it starts, but sounds like its running on three cylinders, then when you push the throttle it dies in the ass and hits reverse compression on the way out. Does that 5-10 times, but when it finally does start right, it runs absolutely beatifully...
Any ideas??
Cheers,
Kev.

Yeah fuel supply is fine, Its hard-wired to a relay that is triggered by standard ignition power.

checked timing?
possibly something thats working once it gets some temp from the starts? ie dud wire that after a few starts warms up then conducts. ?
guess maybe when it sounds bad test spark on all cylinders perhaps....![]()

Timing is fine due to running perfectly when it does start properly. Like I can seriously go on a long drive with no problems, then when I stop it, have the starting problem again...
And yes timing is set to 10 degrees before TDC.

1st possibility is pretty much ruled out too, i can run the engine for a long time (go for a drive), then stop it, then instantly try to start it and it will do the same starting problem again.Originally Posted by TA-022
Might check all my spark plugs tomorrow, but i really doubt that could be the problem, due to it running fine once it does start right...

what a weird ass problem :\
Sensor of some sort playing up?
May pay out to check all the leads/plugs/injector plugs etc.
Eldar.O.
Anyone know what type of signal "STA" on the ecu requires? I have it hooked up to the starter wire, a wire that recieves 12V when you turn the key to start. Maybe it's meant to be a ground or something?

3 STA Black/White Starter Solenoid (from ignition switch 'start' position), cold start injector power feed and cold start injector timer (brown plug temp sensor at rear of head) Start signal to ECU, cold start injector and cold start injector timer power feed

Wires to your dizzy not so good, or the reluctor itself a bit unhappy? Once it's running, you'll get a stronger signal due to it moving faster, but when it's only going at cranking speed the signal might be crook. Are all wires shielded, clean, etc?
Rofl OMG, I havent tried that yet, but that is a definate possibility, they are just twisted together, soldered and then some shitty electrical tape slapped on em, I'll try it now.

Took the dizzy out, replaced all the internals, did the wires properly, same deal... THEN...
Turned out to be the easiest problem in the book, one that just last night I had suggested to my friend... The T wire from my ECU was going through the loom and occasionally grounding, hence putting it in diagnostics mode... Diagnostics mode can't be activated while the engine is above 0RPM, hence as soon as it was running, even if it grounded it made no difference.. I just chopped it at the ECU end, problem solved.
Thanks for your input anyway people, always good to know people are there to help solve problems, you'll all receive a pos rep.
