Default Look what I found on teh interwebs

Might not be my place to say but would it be a good idea to have a sticky thread in the off topic section for the interweb type crap....just a thread for people to chuck silly pictures and links in? I know that those sorts of threads annoy some members so if they are all in one place then it doesnt clog the board up and you can easily avoid them. So as to save bandwidth anything that gets pushed further than say page 3 on it is automatically deleted.

its a good diea, if the marority of members enjoy seeing this stuff then why shouldnt we have it?

then the whingers can just stay UNSUBSCRIBED from the 'looky what i foudn on teh interweb' thread and we can all be happy.

from what i have seen it is only a very small minority of members that dont like these threads.

sometimes i wonder why they bother complaining when its so much easyer to just click the X button at the top of the window but anyway....

meh well obviously its up to the board to decide. Just thought I would suggest a way to try and keep everyone happy with some sort of compromise so some members arent put out by having their threads deleted and other members arent put out by having to sift through half a dozen interweb threads.

and placenta, in your most recent 100 posts, there are only 7 in the tech section. most in non car, some in gen car talk.

it is not those that whinge about the shite that is posted that are in the minority, it is folks like you with minimal technical contribution or interest that are, and should remain to be, in the minority. this is NOT something the club encourages, and is NOT the role of these forums

and as an aside to everyone who didn't pick this up earlier.. the Toymods car club now has to pay for their bandwidth, which is why there has been the recent crackdown (mainly by our beloved BvD) on all the useless/annoying/wasteful threads in non-car discussion. When it didn't cost the club anything, it was an annoyance. Now it is a liability.

The general message is.. wander off to Hot4s and post it

As has been mentioned above by Ed and Drav. The forums aim is to be a technical forum, where one comes to learn and share all things Toyota. Second to this the club on the old forums had a pretty easy ride not having to pay for bandwidth, now, this isn't the case, the Financial members are paying for it. I'm pretty sure if you poll the financial members they would prefer to be paying for Tech information, not links to irellivant videos.

This is my opinion and probably not that of the board as a decision making group, but I think there is more chance of the Non-Car discussion section being removed than adding a Crappier Sub forum inside an already overused crap section

i dunno, all im saying is that its a club, and i was under the impression that as a paying member i had as much a voice as anyone else.

i am here to learn (like many others) so how does my technical ability (if any) come into play for this argument?

i dont LIKE visiting any other forums, toymods is pretty much the only forum i participate in, and i sometimes enjoy reading 'look my interweb' posts while learning stuff in the technical section also.

i just think that as a democracy, it should be up to the majority.

i am happy too see it go either way, i wouldnt MISS anything by not seeing internet crap, but sometimes i DO enjoy it as a break from the technical side, and i put that opinion out there, in context with the subject of this thread.

also sorry for implying that people that dont like these threads are whingers; i DO know exactly how you feel about some of the shit that is posted here, however i am more than happy to make a smart arse comment and leave it to die a natural death rather than get offended by its existence

whats the big fascination with needing to link it up here?? its not original, its just some shite 'you found on teh interweb'

its the internet ffs - its FULL of random funny crap, there are websites dedicated to hosting it. why individually link each bit in a new thread? you dont add anything original to either the internet, nor to this group, it just duplicates crud

why the need to do this? have you not heard of just 'surfing the web' ?

Both sides are very valid here.

Interestingly enough, it's Toymods where I hang out during the day too, and interestingly enough, like Placenta, I enjoy the odd distraction and laugh.

If someone else posts something on Toymods that they have found amongst all the garbage on the interent that's actually a somewhat funny or pleasant aside, then I enjoy it with them.

If we all just 'surfed the web' then we'd all be filtering through all the same crap all day long. Bravo to the people in my toymods community who give me entertainment without me having to filter through the gigabytes of crud by doing some of that filtering themselves.

The issue is whether or not it's appropriate on toymods. That's what's going on here.

And that issue was decided with the creation of "non-car discussion". What DO we want it for if it's not for us to be able to share some of the more lighthearted corners of the web?

Yes, there are boundaries we don't wish to cross - but where is that line defined? How is an average topic better than a good link? What is a 'good' link? What topics are acceptable? Some things are quite obviously silly, but others perhaps not so. And so on... I don't think it is very clear and therein' lies the rub and the merit in Placenta's idea - which in actual fact would help define that line and provide our mods with the abilty to moderate without frustrating people with invisible boundaries.

So currently it becomes an issue of what mood the current moderator is in as to where that line sits. As ed has clearly stated, 'it just duplicates crud'. There is his value judgement and our line. Unfortunately I don't think we're all mind readers yet And what does "it" mean anyway?

    The quest continues
