Default how to test a speed cut defender without driving on the street?

    so yeah, how do?

i was thinking jack up the back end and taking off the wheels but i think the shafts would still hang down too much for a high speed run (180km.h+) and put too much stress on the uni joints.

other option would be to remove the tailshaft with the back end jacked up to stop fluid leaking from the tranny.

has anyone done anything like this? i definately dont want to do this on the street. (anyone know some good straight streches of 'private road' in adelaide? preferably north east?)

the only really sensible option would be to go to the drags but being in adelaide this is not likely which is suprising considering how much money goes into hosting and promoting motorsports in this state.

Pay $50 for a dyno run.

Jack up the rear of the car, remove wheels and then tie suspension arms up to the body (ie get rid of wheel droop?). Still, not a fan of having a wheel rotating at 180+km/h with the car just sitting on chassis stands (makes me think of the end of Ferris Bueller's Day Off), dyno would be much better option

I once accidently used a UZS131 Crown speedo sensor, which is 20pulse/rev (most are only 4pulse/rev).
The speedo went off the charts before I left the driveway.

    Otherwise, just use a drill...

Don't remove tailshaft, you'll lose trans fluid then
Put bricks under susp. arms to retain normal ride height and prevent u-joint stressing
keep in mind that if your car runs open diff, the whole procedure would stress it, too
in every other aspect running 180kph on bricks isn't more dangerous than doing it on road

If you want to be a smart-ass geek about it, you can always build or buy a frequency generator. Hook it up to the speed sender output and dial the speed up while you drive. That way you get to watch the speed and have some load on the engine when it hits the cut (it may not cut fuel at idle revs for safety reasons).

But one of those sets you back about as much as a dyno run. And most dynos can get to 200km/h, so as long as your car has the limiter at 180, you're set.

Just take the tailshaft out and put a dummy yolk in an way you go.Did this today with a Celica to see if the speedo was working after engine swap 140k+ no probs no vibrations no danger of car shooting off jack stands.
    Cheers Brett.

I tried to avoid posting before as it's not exactly helpful (plus the dyno post is EXACTLY what you are after).

    But.

Why are you worrying about a speed cut defender if you have no use for it? I guess if you are prepping for an upcoming track day then it might be a viable excuse, but it just seems weird to me you are installing one with no way of testing it. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

yes its for use at the drags; i always hit speed cut before the finish line.

its hard to find a dyno day on the cheap but i am going to pay full price for a dyno run to make sure fuel is ok and will get the speed cut checked there as well.

i have done a few dynbo runs before and never hit speed cut so im guessing they will have to do a special run to reach 180.

i liked the drill idea (although i would have to be revving the engine at the same time i guess) and also taking the side shafts off.

    thanks for the input guise
